Get Ready for Kindergarten with the YMCA SPARK Program
Since its creation in 2001, SPARK (Supporting Partnerships to Assure Ready Kids) has been dedicated to helping vulnerable children make a seamless transition into kindergarten, setting them on the path to becoming successful learners. This innovative home-visiting, family-focused kindergarten readiness program works with families, schools, and the community to ensure children are prepared for school and life.
Each month, participating children receive a new book, lesson activities, educational supplies, and opportunities to engage in home and group learning experiences. These resources focus on building essential skills in reading, language, and social development, giving families the tools to support their child’s learning journey.
SPARK has significantly impacted Ohio, supporting over 5,000 families by working closely with schools to enhance the transition to kindergarten. The program serves children who are turning three or four years of age by September 30 of each year across Franklin County, helping them get ready to thrive in school environments.

The Housing Choice Voucher (HCV) program
The Housing Choice Voucher (HCV) program provides housing assistance for very low-income families, the elderly and the disabled, allowing them to live in safe, quality affordable housing in the private market. Since housing assistance is provided on behalf of the family or individual participants are able to find their own housing, including single-family homes, townhouses or apartments in neighborhoods of their choice. Participants are free to choose any housing that meets the requirements of the program and are not limited to units located in subsidized housing projects.
A family that is issued a voucher is responsible for finding a suitable unit where the owner agrees to rent under the HCV program. The suitable unit may even include the family's present residence. Rental units must meet minimum standards of health and safety, as determined by the PHA.
A housing subsidy is paid to the landlord directly by CMHA on behalf of the participating family. The family then pays the difference between the actual rent charged by the landlord and the amount subsidized by the program.

Free Columbus Blue Jackets student ticket offer for Student Achievers
The Columbus Blue Jackets Student Achievers celebrates high performing and improving students for their academic accomplishments with free tickets to a Blue Jackets game!
What makes this offer so inclusive is that it only requires that a student improves by one grade letter, without a specification on subject matter. Even students facing academic challenges can strive to achieve this goal!
Students that receive straight A’s, or improve a full letter grade in one subject, over the course of a grading period are eligible to receive an exclusive ticket offer!
The program also accepts report cards that aren’t on a traditional A-F grading scale, and will review these accordingly based on scale.
Note: this can only be redeemed once per season/school year per student, and is limited to during the hockey season. As such, final spring report card is not eligible.
Parents can upload a copy of the student’s report card and if it qualifies, you’ll get an email within 3 weeks with instructions on how to redeem the offer. Full details here.
Getting the tickets
Once your submission has been approved, you will be contacted via email with a link and a code to select your game and seats for your complimentary ticket(s). Select home games are available for this discount.
You purchase additional tickets at a special discount for the rest of the family. These tickets were $21 +fees during the 2023/2024 season.
If you have multiple students achievers, you can get free tickets for each student for the same game, or attend multiple games. Only one free ticket per student per school year, so you would need to purchase the discounted tickets for additional seats for each game.
Want more hockey? You can also get tickets for any of the other games listed at the special Student Achiever rate by clicking on the game you would like to attend and purchasing under the Additional Tickets heading.
Any Unclaimed Tickets from the 2023/24 Season will be valid for the first games of the 2024/25 Season. So if you submitted a report card last year and weren’t able to attend a game, there are several games to choose from in the Fall!
