Science Olympiad
Once again, Twain Elementary is very excited to be participating in this year’s Macomb County Science Olympiad, which will take place on Saturday, May 10, 2025 at Macomb Community College’s South Campus from 8:00am-4:00pm! This meet will consist of a team of 17 Twain Science Olympiad members. The South Macomb ‘Practice’ Meet is tentatively scheduled for Saturday, March 8th at Fraser High School from 8:00am-2:30pm and ALL of Twain’s Science Olympiad members will be competing in this tournament as well.
Our first step is to assemble our winning team and parent volunteer coaches. Please understand that ONLY 17 STUDENTS are able to compete at the County Meet. Those 17 students will be selected based on the following:1. Availability of student’s parent to coach an event.
2. Teacher recommendation.
3. Grade level of participants.
For additional information, please download the attached permission slip below. Permission slips are due November 15th.
MTPC Skating Party
The MTPC is hosting a skating party at The Great Skate on Thursday, November 14th from 6:00-8:00 PM.
$6 admission with skates included; $5 extra for inline skates
STUDENTS MUST BE ACCOMPANIED BY AN ADULT.
Ala Carte Items Available at Lunch
Ala Carte sales will begin Monday, November 11th during lunch. Please see items/prices to the right. Students will be available to purchase items after getting their regular lunch.
Flags Indicate Indoor Line Up
During inclement weather, red flags will be hung near the main entry and outside the media center. These flags denote indoor line up. Our students can enter the building at 8:20 via the main entry or door #16. As a reminder, the bus loop is not a drop off zone, this area needs to stay open during arrival and dismissal times.
The Second Step Social & Emotional Learning Curriculum K-8
As you know, in September we kicked of the Second Step Curriculum in all K-8 classes to further strengthen our social and emotional learning. Second Step offers weekly, age-appropriate virtual lessons for students to help them with a variety of social and emotional skills. These weekly lessons build on and support all of the great work we're doing at Ike to support our students. Combined with our schoolwide restorative practices and consistent PBIS expectations, we are creating a firm Tier 1 foundation for supporting all of our students' social, emotional, and behavioral development.
This week, each grade-level will begin a new unit. Please view the grade-level home links below to learn more about what your child is learning and how to support them at home during the second unit of Second Step.

Missing Items??
Our lost & found is overflowing. Items will be outside placed the office/media center this week for students to reclaim items. Items remaining on Tuesday, November 26th will be donated to goodwill. Please encourage your child to check for missing items.
Twain Parking Lot Reminders
The North lot is NOT a drop-off/ pick-up zone. It is for parking only. We MUST keep the loop open for busses and emergency vehicles. This rule applies to everyone, so please be cooperative and follow it.
The large, central lot has two lanes: a drop-off/ pick-up lane on the outside of the loop and a driving lane on the inside.
Please note: Drivers MAY NOT get out of your car while in the outside drop-off/ pick-up lane. Your students must exit to the outside of the loop, and drivers must not exit the car to walk students up or pick them up. If you have younger children who need to be walked up or picked up at the door, you MUST park your car in one of the lots or on the street.
Smoking and pets are not permitted on school grounds. Please leave your pets at home for the safety and comfort of all of our students and families.
Please do NOT swear on school grounds. We are trying to set a positive example for behavior for our Twain Comets, and shouting and swearing at other drivers does not set the right example for our kids. We ask our students to be respectful, organized, cooperative, kind, and safe, and we expect those behaviors to be modeled by our parents, too.
World Kindness Day
Please wear blue on Thursday, November 14 to observe World Diabetes Day.

Attendance Matters...
Minutes Matter too.
The bell to start the school day rings at 8:30 a.m. We have had a problem with many students arriving late to school. This not only affects the student who is tardy, but also has an impact on the rest of the classroom. Many important events take place at the beginning of the school day. When a student arrives late, they are missing out on important classroom assignments as well as important announcements. They also interrupt the learning environment for the rest of the students. Please make every effort to assure your student starts the day off in positive way by getting them to school on time.
We have also have an increasing number of students leaving early daily. We dismiss at 3:30 PM unless otherwise noted. Students withdrawn early also miss on daily instruction and interventions. They also disrupt the learning environment. Please make every effort to schedule appointments outside the school day. We want to make sure all of our students are learning. Once we reach 3:15 we may not be able to dismiss your student early. With the many moving parts at the end of the school day, it is not always possible to redirect a student to the office at that time.
Kiwanis Food Drive
The K-2 and 3-6 class that brings in the most items will receive a pizza party.
StuCo Wreath Fundraiser
Twain's Student Council is once again hosting a Wreath Fundraiser. This has always been a very successful fundraiser for our student council and the wreath products are beautiful. Order forms were sent home with students last week. Extras are available in the office should you need them. Orders are due by Wednesday, November 14th and our delivery/pick up date at Twain will be Thursday, Dec. 5th (1/2 day).
*Please make checks payable to Mark Twain Elementary.*
