IMPORTANT UPDATES AND REMINDERS
Board Calls Bond Election to Meet Growth in the District
The Celina ISD Board voted unanimously to call a bond election to support CISD’s continued exponential student growth. If approved, the referendum would bolster safety and security, provide funding for new schools, and increase the academic options for the children in Celina ISD.
The Board’s approval of the $2.295 billion package during the February 3rd meeting is based on the recommendations presented by the 48-member Bond Steering Committee. The committee, which was comprised of students, staff, families, and community leaders, spent the last three months closely examining Celina ISD’s current and future needs. All proposed items are centered around increases in both current and projected student enrollment. On average, more than 800 people move to Celina every month, and the District expects to double its population within five years. The District enrollment is anticipated to quadruple over the course of the next decade. CISD has several campuses reaching maximum capacity next year, and all campuses will exceed maximum capacity within three years if not for the construction of additional schools.
If approved by voters, the referendum would provide the facilities and opportunities needed to accommodate the projected enrollment increase of more than 7,000 students over the next five years. The proposal would allow Celina ISD to build one new high school, two new middle schools, seven new elementary schools, and a new early childhood school. The referendum would commit funding for safety and security upgrades at all CISD facilities, renovations to existing facilities, and the purchase of land. In addition to new campuses, the proposal also includes construction of a safety command center as well as a new operations center to centralize transportation, food services, and maintenance resources. Also included in this referendum is funding for technology infrastructure as well as a second proposition for the purchase of instructional technology to support learning in every classroom.
The proposed bond will support every student and every campus and can be funded with the District’s existing tax rate. 100% of bond dollars will stay in CISD. The District appreciates the involvement of our community in the development of this bond referendum, which honors the work of last year’s Long-Range Facility Planning Committee. That committee also included the participation of students, staff, families, and community leaders.
The CISD bond proposal will appear on the ballot for voter approval this May. Election Day is Saturday, May 3rd, and early voting begins on Tuesday, April 22nd.
For more details about our bond planning please visit our Bond website page.
2019 Bond Construction Update
Celina ISD is experiencing significant growth, and we have three major construction projects underway to support our expanding Bobcat community.
Construction continues on our fifth elementary school, a two-story, 101,271-square-foot campus located in The Parks at Wilson Creek. Set to open this fall, the new school will provide a dynamic learning environment for our students.
Progress is well underway on our second middle school, a three-story, 207,265-square-foot campus at E. Glendenning Road and Coit Road. This state-of-the-art facility is scheduled to open in the fall of 2026, offering expanded opportunities for our growing student population.
Celina High School is expanding by 232,109 square feet across three floors to enhance learning and student experiences. This fall, 67,400 square feet of renovations will be completed and ready for use. Highlights include a new black box theater, an Ag Shop and Barn, and a construction tech and paint booth.
These projects will provide incredible opportunities for our students, and we look forward to sharing more updates as we continue building the future of Celina ISD.
Safety Training at O'Dell
On Friday, February 14th, Celina ISD, in coordination with the city fire and police departments, will conduct a safety training at O'Dell Elementary School from 7:30 AM to 4:00 PM. During this time, no one will be allowed to enter the building. Please contact David Wilson if you have any questions.
