Freshman Focus @ JCHS
November 15th-19th
Be Thankful
This week we have many things to look forward to as we get ready for a holiday break. On Wednesday, teachers will post grades for our second nine week grading period. After the grades are posted, we will be having open house at Johnson Central. Please take this opportunity to come in and touch base with the teachers in our building. All grades will be available on Infinite Campus. If you do not know how to check your grades on Infinite Campus you can come in and gain access to them at our open house. We look forward to having you on campus.
On Friday, our Golden Eagle football team will be playing at Corbin in the Regional Championship. To inspire our team to play at the highest level, Johnson Central will be having a pep rally before the team leaves for the game Friday. The theme for the pep rally is centered around each class displaying their talents. Members from each grade level will work together to create a true talent show that can motivate our team. At Johnson Central, we understand that all talents are valued. This event is an opportunity to show off how special and diverse our talented students are in more than just an athletic context. The Friday talent show is just one more way that Johnson Central focuses on the power of opportunities available to our student body.
Teacher Spotlight: Mrs. Latonya Swiger
My name is Latoyna Swiger. I have been a part of the Johnson
Central family for 24 years, 21 teaching math and 3 teaching social studies.
I help sponsor Spirit Club and Student Council. I was married to my high
school sweetheart for 25 years and have two wonderful boys and a
beautiful daughter-in-law. I have two grandchildren that are my world.
Brayden is 9 and loves playing baseball, basketball, and football. Kendra is
5 and she loves gymnastics and is on the dance team. They both attend
Highland Elementary. My niece, Erica Jo also lives with me as well as my
mom. Erica is a junior at JCHS. I have four dogs Sofie, Copper, and Belle
which are my outside dogs and a Pekingese name Sassy inside.
I love all seasons and holidays but Christmas is my absolute favorite. I’m just a big
kid at heart. When I’m not at school I love being with my family camping,
fishing, lounging at the pool and traveling. I love doing anything outdoors
whether it's mowing the yard or practicing shooting my .38; just hanging out
playing with my grandkids and my dogs.
I graduated high school from Magoffin County High where I played
softball for a traveling team and was a cheerleader. My senior year I was
named Miss MCHS. During high school and my first year at college I
wanted to be a nurse but I decided I wanted to change my major to
education and I’m so glad I did. I love teaching my students but the best
part is getting to know them personally. Teaching is very hard sometimes
but extremely rewarding.
I attended college at Morehead State University where I received my
Bachelor's degree and my Masters degree in education.
