Exploration Wednesday 2025
Exploration Wednesday in 2025
Each school year Loveland High School pauses from its usual processes to give students an opportunity to learn through community service and personal growth activities. The date for this in 2025-26 will be Wednesday, October 22. The seniors (class of 2026) will participate in either community service, a college visit or a career shadow. The freshman (class of 2029) will participate in job shadowing. The sophomores (class of 28) will take the high school version of YouScience* and juniors (class of 2027) will choose from one of the following options:
ASVAB Career Exploration Program
Not just for those who are planning on serving our nation in the military, the ASVAB is a valuable career assessment that can help students to compare their results with the career research that is done in Naviance. While there is no obligation to pursue military service for any student who opts to take the ASVAB, this assessment can help those who are considering enlisting to make plans for specific jobs in the service. Please see this link for more information.
Practice ACT
Taking a practice ACT can help those students who are interested in experiencing a college readiness assessment that will lead to suggestions for future improvement. Provided by LEAP, students will take a retired ACT test in order to learn about what to expect when sitting for an official test session. Score reports will be emailed directly to the students. See this link for a sample report - Sample ACT Diagnostic Report
PSAT
The PSAT serves as the preliminary SAT and also serves as the National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (when taken in 11th grade). Students who choose this option will have access to free, personalized online prep tools for the SAT by linking their College Board accounts with Khan Academy. Taking this assessment in both grades 10 and 11 will allow for a measurement of college readiness growth. Please see this link for more information.
WorkKeys
WorkKeys is an assessment for students who are considering earning an industry-recognized credential while in high school. Students who choose this option will be assessed in Applied Math, Graphic Literacy and Workplace Documents. Any student who is giving consideration to attending Great Oaks or going into the workforce after high school is encouraged to choose this option. Please see this link for more information.
Members of the class of 2027 will fill out a selection form during advisory on March 20, choosing an activity that will best assist them with making plans for after high school. Please be sure to discuss these opportunities before then. The form will remain open until Friday, April 4. A selection will be made on the student’s behalf for anyone who does not complete the Google form.
*We are also particularly excited for the sophomores (class of 2028) to take the high school version of YouScience, an aptitude based career assessment that is based on "brain games." This assessment takes what students may have learned through the middle school version and expands it to include more aptitudes with relevant connections to opportunities after high school. Please see this brief video to learn more about YouScience.
Please contact Mr. Mitchell at mitchedr@lovelandschools.org with any questions. Thank you!
