Principal's Message
Harvey Green Families,
October is here and we are officially halfway through the first trimester! Students are working
diligently and making progress in the standards. Teachers are looking forward to meeting with you next week for Parent-Teacher Conferences. Please contact your teacher if you have any questions or if you still need to sign up.
Our Fun Run will be on Friday, November 1st! The money raised from this event will go directly to your child's classroom. This year, we have a shirt available for you to purchase if you would like to wear on the event day. You can purchase one here for your child(ren) or entire family! Be sure to purchase by Oct. 7th, so shirts can be printed and delivered to the school.
Later this month we will have Walk and Roll to School, Unity Day, the 50th Day of School and Red Ribbon Week! So many exciting things happening at Harvey Green!
If there is anything your family needs assistance with, please reach out to me at tjohnson@fusdk12.net.
Sincerely,
Ms. Johnson

Lost and Found
Is your child missing a water bottle, jacket, or sweater? Please stop by the lost and found rack by the office to look. We will be donating unclaimed items on October 11.
Unity Day - October 16th
A one-day event held the third Wednesday of October to come together in one giant, orange message of hope and support. It’s a day to wear and share orange to visibly show that our society believes no child should ever experience bullying.
Red Ribbon Week-Oct 28-Nov 1
This is a week to focus on the importance of living a healthy lifestyle. This year’s theme is Life is a Movie. Film Drug Free! We encourage students to participate in our Red Ribbon Spirit Days!
Halloween Costumes
Students may wear their Halloween costumes to school on Thursday, October 31st. As always, the attire should not restrict movement or interfere with their ability to learn or use the restroom. No weapons, blood, masks or offensive costumes will be allowed.
Fun Run- November 1st
We are excited to host our annual classroom fundraising event the Fun Run on Friday, November 1st. Sponsor sheets will be sent home soon, so students can begin to fundraise. All money collected for this fundraiser goes directly to classroom. If you would like to purchase a Fun Run shirt to wear the day of the event you can purchase one here. The last day to order is Oct. 7th.
Independent Study Contract
It is imperative that your student attends school daily. Lost classroom time is difficult to replace. However, if you find that you need an extended absence during the school year you will need to request an Independent Study Contract. The contract prevents your child from falling behind and gives him or her attendance credit. If work is not received by the scheduled deadline, the contract will be considered incomplete and voided. The student will not receive attendance credit. Below are the guidelines and policy for requesting an Independent Study Contract.
1. Parent must notify the school at least 10 school days prior to the absence.
2. Students whose achievement level is below grade level standards may not be eligible.
3. Students who have had an ISC in the past and did not successfully complete it, are not eligible for a new contract.
4. Contracts will not be issued on the first 20 days, or the last 20 days of school.
5. Contracts are issued for a minimum of 5 school days and a maximum of 10 days.
6. A student can only have 3 Independent Study Contracts in their K-12 career in FUSD.
7. Contracts may not be faxed or emailed.
8. Students with an IEP must have an addendum to their IEP before the contract will be approved
Contracts must be approved by the teacher and the principal.
Please contact Ms. Veronica Luna for more information in the school office or by email: vluna@fusdk12.net
GATE
Fremont Unified School District (FUSD) provides support for gifted and talented (GATE) students through differentiated instruction. We believe that differentiated instruction not only serves the needs of our exceptional students, but also enhances the entire educational program for all students.
During the 2024/2025 school year we will continue to identify 5th grade students who were not identified in an earlier grade. These students may be considered for GATE identification through the professional judgement process. Teachers and/or parents may nominate a student. A completed nomination form must be submitted by the teacher or parent to the school Principal by December 16, 2024. Principals will set up meetings with the teacher, student, and parent to discuss the student’s eligibility for GATE identification.
For more information, please see the FUSD GATE website.
Student Absences
If your child is ill or will not be attending school, please contact the school’s absence line (before 9am) at (510) 656-6538, then press 7.
Please leave the student’s name, class number and reason for absence. For reasons of student safety, we need to know where students are, so we can determine in a timely fashion who is not at school without their parents’ knowledge. If these absences are not cleared by a parent/guardian, they will be considered unexcused. Excessive absences and/or tardies, excused or unexcused, may result in a truancy warning.
Medication at School
If your child needs medication at school please use this link to get all necessary form. Health Forms
These forms will need to be completed and signed by the doctor. Do not send your child to school with medication in their backpack, this is unsafe for them and all other students.
Moving
Per Board Policy any parent/guardian of a student enrolled in the District shall notify the District prior to or within five (5) days of any change in circumstance and/or a move which would affect their student’s residency (AR 5111.1).
Please complete and email the Change of Address Form with 2 proofs of new address residency to your current school.
Free Breakfast and Lunch Daily
ALL Green students will have access to free meals here at school. Students will be asked every morning if they are going to get a school lunch so we can order the correct amount
of food. Please communicate with your child if you would like them to get a school meal and if they are choosing the meat or vegetarian option.
Breakfast will be served daily in the MUR for any interested students at 8:00am. Parents/guardians are not allowed in the MUR. Students will be supervised while they eat and will be either released to recess when finished or if they are TK/K they will be walked to class.
For menus and more information please use this link.

How You Can Get Involved:

If you would like to donate, please bring it to the office in a bag marked “Fall Festival Candy / Toy” by Thursday, October 24th. If you have a spare gift card, an extra toy still in the package or a new household item that you would like to donate please bring it to the office by Friday, October 18th.
Volunteer: Be part of the magic, we need your help to make the event a success! We are looking for:
- Coordinators and Helpers on Saturday, 10/26: We're looking for enthusiastic volunteers to take on coordinator roles for the festival (e.g.: food booth, games, balloon artists, help with set up & clean up etc). If you're interested, please sign up using our volunteer sheet.
- Pre-Festival / Behind-the-Scenes Volunteers: If you can't make it on the day of the festival but still want to be part of the action, there are plenty of behind-the-scenes tasks. You can help with activities like delivering sponsorship letters to local stores, collecting donations, shopping, packing raffle prizes, sorting supplies, making new posters, coping flyers, texting volunteers, labeling supplies for setup.
