ERD Family Smore
Week of August 19, 2024 #growingGREATNESS
-Now that we've completed our first week and routines have been established, please make sure your child/ren are at school on time. Arriving tardy may be stressful for some students, and they miss important classroom activities when they are late.
-As we move forward in the next couple of weeks, we may need to do some leveling of classes.
-Please send your child/ren to school with a water bottle every day. We have water filling stations coming soon!
-Due to federal guidelines surrounding the free breakfast and lunch program, WE ARE NOT ALLOWED TO ACCEPT CUPCAKES, BIRTHDAY CAKES, ETC FOR STUDENTS' BIRTHDAYS. If a student brings cupcakes or cakes, we will keep them in the office and send them back home with them in the afternoon. There are items that can be sent for birthdays. Please see the Smart Snacks button near the bottom of the Smore to learn more.
-We are not a 100% peanut-free school, but if your child's teacher has conveyed to you that her/his classroom is peanut-free due to a student in the classroom with a peanut allergy, please respect the health of that child and refrain from sending peanut-containing foods to school with your child.
-We will be doing a complete renumbering of car pool tags soon. It will be a process, but we will keep you informed through the Family Smores and our FB page. If you don't have a FB page, no worries. All you need to do is Google "E. R. Dickson Facebook page" and you will be able to view it.
-For our bus rider families... have you joined our Bus Remind yet? If not, directions on how to join can be found in the link below. It is a valuable tool in knowing what's going on with our buses, such as what time they pull out every day, if there is a sub driver, if two buses are doubled up. etc.
Here's a little "Did You Know" from our OMI math coaches
Many students view the equal sign as a symbol that means “the answer is.” Instead, the equal sign in math means what is to the right & left of the symbol have the same value. Understanding the equal sign as a relational symbol becomes is vital for students to learn the correct interpretation of the equal sign. Students need an understanding of the equal sign to work on higher-level math problems such as word problems and algebraic equations.
