MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL
Steindorf Families,
What a wonderful turn-out for our 2024 Back to School Night! I was able to visit every single classroom and snap a few photos. Thank you so much for partnering with our stellar staff as we provide a world-class education for our scholars! If you did not have a chance to attend, please reach out to your scholar’s teacher and they can send you the slide deck.
Calling ALL Parents/Guardians!
We are in need of parent/guardian leaders to serve as the voice of Steindorf to join a few key positions. If you are interested in learning more or would like to join any of these positions, please email me as soon as possible at leet@cambriansd.com. Positions need filling, immediately include the following:
School Site Council (SSC) - 2 Parents - SSC is made up of five parents/guardians and five Steindorf staff members. We are so thankful for the continued leadership of parents/guardians Howard Greenfield, Anna Orwin, and Jessica Berger. We meet five to six times a school year and are instrumental in looking at student performance data, developing, and implementing our Local Control and Accountability Plan (LCAP).
Meeting Location, Day & Time: Via Zoom, 4:00-5:00 or 5:30 pm
Meeting Dates: September 23, 2024; October 28, 2024; January 13, 2025; February 24, 2025; May 28, 2025
Currently, we have two open seats. You can also learn more about SSC through our Role of SSC & ELAC and SSC Bylaws documents.
As of this moment, members of the SSC for 2024-2025 include:
Trisha Lee - Principal
Mandy Jeziorske - Classified
Kate Moody - Certificated
Maya Broadnax - Certificated
Howard Greenfield - Parent
Anna Orwin - Parent
Jessica Berger - Parent

District English Language Advisory Committee (DELAC) - 1 Parent - This committee advises the governing board at the district level, on concerns that pertain to our multilingual learner community. Specifically, you would serve as a representative of the Steindorf multilingual student and family community. You can learn more about this role on our district website.
Meeting Location, Day & Time: District Office on Thursdays, 9:30-11:00 am
Meeting Dates: November 14, 2024; January 23, 2025; February 27, 2025; May 1, 2025
District Local Control and Accountability Plan (LCAP) - 2 Parents - One key aspect of the LCAP process is the engagement of all community members. Staff, teachers, administrators, bargaining partners, community members, parents/guardians, and students — including foster youth, homeless youth, and those from low-income and English learner communities — will be consulted to provide feedback on the plan. The input provided by the LCAP AC informs the development of the LCAP, which influences the district's strategic actions and services to improve student outcomes. You can learn more about this role on our district website.
Meeting Location, Day & Time: District Office; Tuesdays, 12:30-3:00 pm
Meeting Dates: November 5, 2024; January 14, 2025; February 11, 2025; March 18, 2025; April 22, 2025
CALL TO ACTION!
This is a call to action for our Steindorf community. I cannot emphasize enough how important it is that we all contribute to the positive and safe learning environment and community that is Steindorf Strong. In light of recent events, this is a reminder that we all need to do our part and be vigilant.
There are many pathways for which our students can come to school in the mornings, and return home. They can ride their bike, scoot, or walk with an adult, or when old enough, with peers or on their own.
For parents and guardians who drive their students to school, you too have multiple options. You can park in the community neighborhood. You park your vehicle in an identified parking stall, exit your vehicle, and walk your child to the front gate using our designated crosswalks. However, if you choose to enter the drop off lane, which begins shortly after you enter the parking lot, this is an indication that you will remain in that lane until you pass our front gates. Do not allow your child to exit your vehicle, then pull out of the drop-off lane. Wait until your vehicle is well within the ‘safe zone’ for your child. In the past week alone, we have had two incidents where staff have been yelled at for simply caring for our students safety and wellbeing. Together, we can be Steindorf Strong, today and every day!
Distracting, Non-school Related Items on Campus
While at school, our teachers work very hard to provide each student a uniquely personal learning
experience. However, we have observed the number of non-school related items being brought to
school, skyrocket. This has caused an increased level of distraction not only of students who brought the items but others in their classroom. Please keep all non-school related items at home. This includes stuffies, toys, footballs, and other similar items. If your child is bringing an item to share from home as part of a teacher assigned activity or assignment, those items must be kept in backpacks until they receive instructions from their teachers, and should not leave classrooms/backpacks during snack/brunch and lunch.
Water Bottles and Other Student Property
Students continue to become more familiar with our daily school routines, but we continue to see lunch
bags and water bottles left behind. Please take a moment to label all of your child’s items so that we can quickly return them when left out at snack/brunch and lunch.

PARKING LOT SAFETY
Safe Travels To and From School - Do’s and Don'ts
NOTE: The city has installed a "Right Turn Only During School Hours" sign at the exit of our parking lot. This is now enforceable by police. TURNING LEFT OR TRYING TO GO STRAIGHT is a danger to our students. Especially those crossing in the crosswalk across the street. Please only turn right.
Do’s
Walk or ride your bike when possible. You can lock your bike at the small bike rack at the end of the middle school wings.
Pull forward in the drop-off zone.
Drive slowly through our parking lot and look for pedestrians crossing at any point.
If transporting your child via car, park in a designated parking spot or in the neighborhood.
Please ensure that your child is fully buckled when driving through our parking lot.
Wear a helmet, it’s the law! Children under the age of 18 in California are required to wear a helmet when riding or operating a non-motorized scooter, bicycle, roller skates or skateboard.
To reduce the risk of an accident, abide by the posted sign installed by the City of San Jose and only turn right out of our exit between 7:30 am and 3:30 pm.
Don'ts
Don’t drive through our parking lot with distractions that could cause a student injury - In the first six days of school, Principal Lee has noted children scooting without a helmet, drivers with a phone in their hand, and dogs in drivers’ laps (which is not illegal, but a potential distraction).
Don’t park in designated disabled spots without a disabled placard.
Don’t bring your pet with you to campus.
HEALTH AND ATTENDANCE
Attendance Matters
School attendance is a top priority. When children miss school days, they miss the opportunity to learn from their teachers. The more children miss, the harder it is for them to keep up with those who attend school regularly.
Research shows that missing 10 percent of school, or just 2 days a month, negatively affects a student’s academic performance in reading and math.
Students who are chronically absent in grades TK-2 are far less likely to read proficiently at the end of grade 3.
Help your child be a HERO (Here at school, Every day, Ready to learn, and On time). Attending school every day helps students build their super powers like reading, writing, and math skills, and provides opportunities to connect with friends.
Medication Authorization
This is a reminder that all medications have to be stored in the office with the appropriate medication authorization form. To ensure your student's safety, over the counter and prescription medications that are used on campus must be accompanied by forms signed by your doctor. You can find all forms on our district website.
*All medications must be new and unopened. Cough drops and over the counter medications also follow the same guidelines.
Short-Term Independent Studies
If you are planning on scheduling family vacations, please make every effort to schedule around our instructional calendar. You can also find early release days outside of our regularly scheduled early release Wednesdays for scheduling appointments for your scholar. If your plans include your scholar missing 3-14 days of school, please notify the front office to discuss a short-term independent studies contract to minimize the impact of missed school days. You can find more information about absences on our district website.

Steindorf Bike Rodeo Weds. September 4th at 1:45
Please bring your bikes and helmets and join us for a bike rodeo led by the City of San Jose! Students will have an opportunity to learn and practice bike safety, have their bikes repaired, and more! Please note a parent or guardian must be present.
Online Student Safety
Now that we have returned to school, there has been a surge of Securly notifications that students are visiting blocked websites or using search words that raise a flag of concern. Securly is a system we utilize to monitor what students are accessing when logged into their Cambrian School District account. Some of these notifications are received in the middle of the night, when our scholars should be fast asleep. Please reiterate safe online computer practices and decision-making at home. The sole purpose of our student accounts and devices are for educational reasons, not gaming and not searching topics that are not related to their schoolwork. Please check out this article recently published by the Institute of Digital Media and Child Development of the impact of digital media on youth attention and focus and these Common Sense Media parental guides and resources.
BRUNCH AND LUNCH MENUS
Cambrian School District is pleased to offer all students complimentary breakfast and lunch meals. Meals will be available for pickup in the cafeteria during scheduled meal periods. Please consider taking advantage of our FREE school meals by clicking here and signing up. It extends your grocery budget, saves time planning and preparing meals, and is comforting and familiar for kids to have school meals. In addition, every meal served is reimbursed by the USDA and funds go toward Child Nutrition staff wages. Please note that you are not taking food away from someone who needs it more – we have plenty to go around!
