I am the new person “on the block” at LPCS joining the staff as a teacher’s aide back in May, 2018. I grew up and lived in New Jersey until May 2017 when I decided that I wanted to leave New Jersey’s “rat race” and move to beautiful Speculator where life for me has become more peaceful. I chose Speculator because I spent most of my summers vacationing up here as well as skiing and snow-boarding in the winter months. I always loved it and hated to leave. Now I don’t have to leave and I still love it!!!

I find the position of being a teacher’s aide both challenging and rewarding at the same time and very different from my previous career as a police officer and paralegal. My career in law enforcement gave me the opportunity to be exposed to all types of situations (both good and bad) and enabled me to learn how to interact with all types of individuals, (also the good and not so good.)

I am very grateful to be part of the staff at this wonderful school. I have found that LPCS is not only a great place to work, but that the offices and classrooms are filled with caring, compassionate people who desire to see the students excel; not only academically, but also to become students who respect each other and use their talents and gifts to give back to the community and help others who are in need. My goal here as a teacher’s aide is not only to assist each student who needs help with their studies, but to encourage the students to be proud of who they are, set goals for themselves, and then work hard and do their best to achieve their goals. All these students have something to offer and are capable to make both Speculator and Lake Pleasant a better place to live as well as make their own future better. I consider it an honor to be able to help the students achieve their goals.

On Friday, December 14th, a representative from the Hamilton County Soil and Water Conservation District came to present our 5th and 6th students with certificates and ribbons for the 2018 poster and essay contest. We are honored to announce that two of our students placed in the contest. Paul Smith came in 3rd place for the poster contest, and Alex Vogel came in 1st place for the essay portion. We couldn't be more proud of all the students for their hard work and dedication!

We understand we have Veterans Day in the fall and Memorial Day in the spring, but our service members sacrifice their time and safety every single day of the year to preserve our freedoms.

In many homes, there is an empty seat for one who is serving or one who made the ultimate sacrifice for our country. There is no better time to express our appreciation than during the hustle and bustle of the holiday season.

The annual tribute went on quietly for several years, until 2005, when a photo of the stones at Arlington, adorned with wreaths and covered in snow, circulated around the internet. Suddenly, the project received national attention. Thousands of requests poured in from all over the country from people wanting to help with Arlington, to emulate the Arlington project at their National and State cemeteries, or to simply share their stories and thank Morrill Worcester for honoring our nation’s heroes.

This is the third year Lake Pleasant Central School has participated in the Wreaths Across America Program. Wreaths Across America would not be successful without the help of volunteers, active organizations, and the generosity of the trucking industry, which offer invaluable support to WAA's mission to remember the men and women who served our country, honor our military and their families, and teach our children about our freedom and those who protect it.

On Wednesday, December 19, 2018, Lake Pleasant Central School held the annual Christmas Concert. Parents, community members, teachers, and staff enjoyed watching our students sing and dance to holiday favorites. We even had a surprise visit from Santa Claus!

LPCS would like to send a huge thank you to Marty Shean, Sandy Stuart, Brenda McIntyre, and Anne Weaver for their hard work and dedication preparing the students for the concert. We would also like to thank Mrs. Aird and Ms. O'Connell for the amazing cookies they baked for the evening.
