Weymouth High School Library Update

New Books this Month π
The librarians are excited about the new books they've added to the collection this month. The new titles cover a variety of styles and genres including fantasy, graphic novels, and sports fiction. Ms. Buell is most enthusiastic about The Small and the Mighty by Sharon McMahon. It tells the stories of 12 mostly unknown yet remarkable Americans whose life stories inspire pride and Patriotism. "McMahon's podcast is known for making U.S. history fun and entertaining and I expect her book does the same," said Ms. Buell. Another new title, Throwback by Maurene Goo, is capturing the attention of Ms. Duff. This sci-fi contemporary YA novel centers on a Korean American teen who gets sent back to the 1990s where she encounters her teenage mother. "The idea of time travel really intrigues me," said Ms. Duff. "Traveling back to an analog world sounds cool as does the idea of seeing your parents from a different perspective."
Mobile Library Brings the Library to the Classroom π
Sometimes it makes sense to trek over to the library with a class -- and sometimes it just takes too much precious time away from the lesson. Now, there is another option: the WHS Mobile Library. Ms. Buell has started coming to classrooms with her Chromebook, a scanner, and a cart of pre-selected books to allow small groups of students to browse and check out. This can be a station rotation activity or during independent work time. More information and ideas are in the flyer above.

Learning Help in the Library
WHS National Honor Society students are available in the library for tutoring during every study period. Any student who needs a little extra help completing homework assignments or studying for a test can work with an NHS student at a reserved table in the library. Ask at the circulation desk to be connected with a peer tutor. If there is a specific class or assignment you need help with, complete the form linked above to give the tutors advance notice.
Every Monday-Thursday after school Homework Hotspot meets in the library. Ms. Miceli, Ms. Armstrong, and Ms. Stone support students in completing homework assignments. They are also excellent at helping students with time management and organization skills.
A limited number of students may visit the library during their SIP/Study period. Students must complete the sign up Form (see link below) to reserve a spot. The Form opens after 2:15pm and closes at 7:30am and reservation is made for that day only. If the period needed is not listed it means that it has reached capacity. Once students complete the Form they do not need to go to their study. Come straight to the library and check in at the desk.
