Ben-Hem Bobcats
The Bi-Weekly Update from Bennett-Hemenway Elementary School
Things to Know:
- COFFEE WITH COACHES - SESSION II - MARCH 14TH 8:30 - 9:30 am: Join us for the second installment of Coffee with Coaches. This "workshop" is a time and place to learn more about ways you can support math and literacy skills at home. This event is open to all parents and caregivers at Ben Hem.
- CORE VALUE: WE TAKE CARE OF EACH OTHER: Our first grade team hosted our last whole school assembly on Valentine's Day. They focused on our core value of Taking Care of Each Other. Our students sang "Put a Little Love in Your Heart" as they helped us learn more about the ways that people at Ben Hem live this value. They interviewed staff and students and asked two important questions: "What does love mean to you?" And, "How do you help us take care of each other at Ben Hem?" The team then invited our first grade parents and caregivers in the next day to share their assembly with our community.
- PTO PARENTS NIGHT OUT IS ONE WEEK AWAY! Sponsored by the Allain Group, the auction is only a few weeks away! Come dressed on Friday, March 8th as your favorite celebrity or character to BH's Parents-Only Fundraising Event. We'll have a silent auction, appetizers/drinks, and lots of music and dancing! Click here for details and to buy your tickets.
- KIDS HEART CHALLENGE IS HAPPENING! It’s time for the Kids Heart Challenge! This is our voluntary community service for the American Heart association in conjunction with our Jump Rope Unit and Healthy Heart Month (February). Did you know that heart disease is the No. 1 killer of all Americans, 80% of it may be preventable through lifestyle changes? For 40 years they have been teaching children the importance of heart-healthy habits – a foundation for the rest of your child’s life. This service-learning program will also share with your child the inspirational stories of children who have been touched by this disease while they raise funds to help kids like them and save and improve all lives. - BEN HEM HAS TALENT IS COMING BACK: Stay tuned for more information about the return of the Ben Hem Talent Show! Holly Chin, Parent and Theater Production expert is running this event on Friday, April 5 at Wilson Middle School. We can't wait to see the talents that our Bobcats share. More information to come.
- DROP OFF LINE: 4TH GRADE PARENTS: Our morning drop off line depends on the parents in our community. In March, we are looking for the parents of 4th graders to help our students out of the cars and to the right place. Live drop-off starts at 8:05 and volunteers are asked to be there from 8:00 to 8:20. Please Sign up here!

District Report Card
Dear Families:
Every year, each public school and school district in Massachusetts receives a report card. Just as your child’s report card shows how they are doing in different subjects, the district and school’s report card is designed to show families how our school is doing in different areas. A link to our district’s report card is available here.
In addition to the district report card, each school receives a report card. Please select the school that your child attends to review that school’s report card.
The report card includes multiple measures of a school’s performance – more than just MCAS scores. It represents a way of looking at school performance, by providing information on student achievement, teacher qualifications, student learning opportunities, and more.
Report cards are designed to be useful tools for everyone connected to our school. Families can use the information to have meaningful conversations with us about what the school is doing well and where there is room for improvement. Community and education leaders can use the information to better understand how to support students and our school.
We encourage you to become involved in helping us improve our school. We see parents as critical partners in the success of our students and school, and we are grateful for your continued support.
Finally, if your child attends a school that receives federal Title I funds, you also have the right to request the following information about the qualifications of your child’s classroom teachers:
· Whether your child’s teacher is licensed in the grade levels and subject areas they teach,
· Whether your child’s teacher is teaching under an emergency license or waiver,
· The college degree and major of your child’s teacher, and
· Whether your child is provided services by paraprofessionals and, if so, their qualifications.
If you have questions about our school’s report card, would like to become involved in school improvement activities, or would like to request information about the qualifications of your child’s classroom teacher, please contact your building principal.
