Dragon's Tale
1/10/25
A Message from Dr. A.
January 10, 2025
Dear Dragon Families,
Happy New Year! I hope you and your family had a wonderful and restful winter break. It is a joy to welcome our students back to school, and I am pleased to report that they have jumped right back into their learning with enthusiasm! We look forward to continuing our efforts to support your childβs growth and development as we move forward into the new year.
As we work toward meeting our academic goals, I would like to emphasize the importance of practicing reading at home daily. Reading with your childβor encouraging independent readingβis one of the most powerful ways to reinforce what they are learning in school and help them develop essential literacy skills. Even just 20 minutes of reading each day can make a significant difference in their progress.
For more information about upcoming events, celebrations, and updates on school activities, I encourage you to click on the link to our Dragon's Tale Newsletter. This newsletter is a great way to stay informed and involved in our school community.
As we continue to navigate the colder winter months, please ensure your child is sent to school with appropriate winter gear, including coats, hats, gloves, and scarves. This will help keep them comfortable during outdoor activities and recess.
We also want to encourage all students to maintain a consistent sleep schedule. A good night's sleep is critical for your childβs focus, well-being, and overall performance, especially as we prepare for our next iReady Diagnostic Testing in the coming weeks. If you have any questions or need further information, please don't hesitate to reach out to your childβs teacher. They are always available to support you and your child's learning journey.
Thank you for your continued partnership in helping our students succeed. We look forward to working together to ensure a successful second half of the school year.
Warm regards,
Marci Augenstein, Principal

Celebrating Mrs. Terri Mazer on her Retirement
It is with mixed emotions that we celebrate Mrs. Terri Mazerβs retirement after an extraordinary 30-"some" years of dedication to our school and community. While we are thrilled for her as she embarks on this new chapter of her life, we cannot help but feel the weight of the loss of such an integral part of our school family.
Mrs. Mazer has been a cornerstone of our educational community for multiple decades, impacting the lives of countless students, colleagues, and families along the way. Her unwavering passion for teaching, her tireless commitment to her students, and her compassionate heart have made her a beloved figure here at school. She has truly been a teacher in every sense of the word, going above and beyond in her efforts to make learning meaningful and enriching for all who crossed her path.
Over the years, Mrs. Mazer has received numerous FFE grants, which have enriched our classroom experiences and allowed for countless new learning opportunities. Her role in helping Lauren establish our therapy dog program has brought comfort, joy, and emotional support to many of our students. And this is just a glimpse of the many ways she has served our school, always working behind the scenes and never seeking recognition. Her impact is immeasurable.
Terri, your dedication, generosity, and love for what you do have left an indelible mark on all of us. We are grateful for the years of service youβve given, the relationships youβve built, and the difference youβve made in our studentsβ lives. You will be deeply missed, but your legacy will continue to live on in the hearts of everyone you've touched.
We wish you nothing but the best in this next chapter of your life. May it be filled with joy, relaxation, and all the things youβve so richly earned.

Keith Music Appreciation Club - Updates
Thanks to all the families who came out for the Ellington and The Nutcracker concert. We learned about Carlos Simon, Concertos, Tchaikovsky, The Nutcracker and Ray Chen at our Club meet. We also had a great discussion about the future of classical music and how the online presence of artists, composers and their social media content is the major source of introducing and keeping students engaged. Ray Chen stole the show playing with effortless grace and technical mastery, and it was such a treat to hear him perform an encore - his newly released Serenade.
Our next Club meet is Sunday, February 16, 2024 at 2:30 followed by the 3pm Broadway Love Songs concert.
Tickets are available starting Monday, February 3rd at 9am, by calling or visiting the box office and are subject to availability. For those students who usually book tickets online, please note the DSO is transitioning to only booking Student Soundcard tickets through visiting or calling the box office 313.576.5111.
