From The Heights Administration:
Dear Heights Families,
As we kick off the new school year, we are excited to share some of the wonderful things happening at Heights Elementary!
Our students are diving right into their learning by setting goals in both reading and math. This will help them focus on their growth and celebrate their achievements throughout the year.
In their classrooms, students are also busy creating essential agreements that will guide their interactions and learning. They are learning new procedures and expectations that will support a positive and productive environment for everyone.
Additionally, students are following our PAWS expectations across the campus, ensuring that our school remains a respectful and safe place for all.
We are looking forward to another amazing year at Heights Elementary and appreciate your continued support in making this a successful school year for your child.

Severe Weather:
During the school year when storms are upon us, we will not release any students if there is lightning in the area. All bus riders, walkers and bike riders will wait out the storm in the school. Any parent pick-up students will wait in the cafeteria or in the front office. Please remain in your vehicles as we will release students as soon as the threat has passed. Administration will update all parents and guardians using the District APP (School Messenger) on any severe weather in the area that might delay pick up or buses leaving the campus.
Attendance:
The Heights Elementary school day begins at 7:55 am. One of the most valuable life skills a student can learn from their parent/guardian is the responsibility of arriving at school every day on time. This skill can easily be accomplished and will transfer as a valuable asset for the future. One of the most important times of the school day is the morning. This is the time when important school news is announced, teachers define the plans for the day, and instructional goals are reviewed and set. The whole tone of a child’s school day is set in the first part of the day. Please help support your student in learning habits that will help them be successful at school and throughout life.
PARENTS - if you have had a child absent from school - YOU MUST SEND IN A NOTE/DR. NOTE WHEN THEY RETURN LETTING US KNOW WHY THEY WERE ABSENT.
This is the only way you can excuse an absences. Please read your Code of Conduct or call Mrs. Curry or Mrs. Kurowski to see what is considered excused or unexcused.
IB PYP September Profile Word: Knowledgeable
The IB Learner profile aims to develop students who are knowledgeable. Students who are knowledgeable explore concepts, ideas and issues that have local and global significance. In doing so, they acquire in-depth knowledge and develop understanding across a broad and balanced range of disciplines.
Make connections between the known and unknown
Ask questions and seek answers!
Be informed about the world around you
How can parents help to develop students who are knowledgeable at home?
- Encourage your child to be aware of current events by watching the news or reading news articles when appropriate.
- Explore connections between the area of interest and other topics.
- When your child asks a question, encourage them to seek the answer out rather than giving them the answer.
- Ask your child about what they are learning in school and engage them in conversations about it.
- Foster areas of interest that your child displays though books, outings and activities.
Ask:
- "Why do you think that is important to know?"
- "Can you think of anything that's happening today that might be similar to...?"
- "What does that make you think of?"
- "Does that remind you of anything else you've learned?"
