APRIL 2025
SUMMER EBT - UPDATES
Apply Now for SUMMER EBT
What are SUN Bucks?
“SUN Bucks” is the new name for the Summer EBT program. Eligible families of school-age children will receive $120 per child for qualifying groceries during the summer. Families that submitted an Education Benefit form this year are NOT automatically qualified for this program and WILL NEED TO APPLY for SUN Bucks directly through the MI Bridges website. Families already participating in SNAP, TANF, or FDPIR programs ARE automatically enrolled to receive SUN Bucks.
How do I apply for SUN Bucks?
The application is available online through the MI Bridges website and can be found at the bottom of their website. Applications will be accepted on a rolling basis until August 31, 2025; however applications need to be processed before April 15, 2025 to be eligible for the first issuance of SUN Bucks in May. This program is NOT retroactive, so early submission of an application is recommended.
Things to Keep in Mind…
- Families that already submitted an Education Benefit form do NOT automatically qualify for the SUN Bucks program. You WILL NEED TO APPLY DIRECTLY through the MI Bridges website to apply for the SUN Bucks program.
- 2025 Summer EBT benefits (SUN Bucks) will be issued beginning in May 2025.
- Eligible households will receive a letter explaining: Summer EBT eligibility, how to activate/use cards, when benefits will expire, how to opt out, and what constitutes a qualifying purchase.
- Summer EBT Cards will be issued in the name of each eligible child and will be valid for future years, so do NOT throw out your EBT Card once the balance has been used.
- Families with an active Food or Cash Assistance case will have their benefits loaded on their existing Bridge Card.

SMOOTHIE BIKE TRAVELS TO DORR ELEMENTARY
Students always have a fun time when the Smoothie Bike appears in their lunch room! It's a fun and interactive way to get the students engaged in preparing food AND trying some new flavors and food combinations!
On March 27th, students at Dorr Elementary had the opportunity to ride the smoothie bike to power the blender and try some delicious smoothies! They were excellent about taking turns, using their manners, and trying something new! Many students had been counting down the days until the Smoothie Bike arrived. Their joy was contagious! One student stated, "This is the BEST day of my life!" We love hearing comments like THAT when engaging our students in fun and healthy food experiences!
Want to create smoothies at home? Feel free to try our simple recipe or add to it with your favorite fruits!
