NSSD MIDDLE SCHOOL ATHLETICS UPDATE
OCTOBER 4, 2024
24-HOUR RULE
Parents,
I need to take a moment to reiterate and stress the importance of following our “24-hour” rule for parents of student-athletes. This was a talking point in my pre-season parent video that I sent out in September and I have included it below again. However, I have had a few of our Fall season coaches bring this concern to me over the last week so I think it is important for all of our parents to clearly understand the expectations around how to appropriately present a concern or complaint to our coaches. I believe that being “clear” is “kind” so I want to make sure that this message is clear while I kindly ask all parents to respect this expectation.
Parents may not approach a coach regarding a concern before or after games or practices. They must wait to address the concern at least 24 hours from an incident or a concern coming up. This rule is in place to protect the parent AND the coach from an emotion-filled conversation. This rule is especially important before and after games and contests. Please do not ask to speak to a coach before or after a contest to address concerns. Any interaction with a coach on the day of a contest needs to remain positive. Issues like playing time, the outcome of a game, coaching concerns, etc. may be addressed appropriately after 24 hours.
If a parent has a concern, they may email the coach asking for a time to speak with them after practice the next day. They may also email or call me (Mr. Olson) with the concern as well (see contact information below).
Violating the 24-hour rule with a coach may result in a parent not being able to attend games.
Thank you,

PARENT VIDEO
If you haven’t been able to watch the Parent Information video that I sent out last week, please click HERE. Mrs. Carey also emailed that out via FamilyID. There is some important information in that video that parents need to be aware of. If you’ve seen one of those videos from me before and you feel like you know and understand the expectations of our athletics program, feel free to skip it.
