Pi Week
MHHS has a long tradition of raising funds through math classes during Pi Week to donate to the Grassroots Crisis Intervention Center. The goal is to raise enough money ($2400) to cover one day of the crisis hotline.
Grassroots operates a 24-hour general crisis line and free, 24-hour walk-in counseling program, and is the main point of contact in the County for homeless services. They operate the Mobile Crisis Team to respond with the police to psychiatric emergencies and family crises in the community, including responding to Mt. Hebron High School. Staff also respond to requests from the community for crisis intervention services following a traumatic event. The Crisis Intervention Service is certified by the American Association of Suicidology. All services are free for Howard County residents.
Students will be donating change/cash through their math classes from March 11th-15th. Please consider contributing to this worthy cause.
Ramadan
Ramadan is the festive month during which Muslims around the globe reflect on and renew their faith. Muslims honor each day of Ramadan as a day of patient endurance through fasting, and each night as a night of gratitude through prayers. Ramadan is also a month of giving, as Muslims reach out to assist those afflicted by hunger and poverty. Muslims join their fellow citizens to serve the less fortunate, hosting inter-faith activities that promote tolerance and build understanding among religious communities. Teachers will be mindful of the need for understanding as students change their eating habits and nighttime routines. The first day of observing the fast for Ramadan is projected for Monday, March 11th. We would like to wish our Muslim friends a Ramadan Mubarak!
