Attention to those that pick up our primary students. Please do not block traffic and please do not park in the handicapped parking spots to wait. See pick-up procedures below.

Wear College Gear Every Wednesday!!!

Attendance is a top priority at Olive. Wednesday afternoons are the best time to schedule appointments, since the children are dismissed early. If students don’t show up for school regularly, they miss out on direct instruction and the chance to collaborate with others, which are two key components of learning. Data shows that children who are chronically absent are far less likely to read proficiently and graduate high school. We want the very best for our students, and we appreciate your support as well. Thank you for making attendance a priority for your children.

Modified Wednesdays/Minimum Days:

TK/Kindergarten: 8:15am-12:30pm

1st – 3rd grade: 8:15am-12:30pm

4th - 6th grade: 8:15am – 12:45pm

Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays:

TK/Kindergarten: 8:15am-2:15pm

1st - 3rd grade: 8:15am– 2:15pm

4th - 6th grade: 8:15am – 2:30pm

We truly appreciate your help in ensuring all of our students arrive and leave school safely. Please be patient and courteous as you are dropping off and picking up your students. Here at Olive, we practice ROAR behavior. This means we are Respectful (be courteous to others), On-Task (no cell phones while driving please), Act Safely (patience and safe driving), and are Responsible (follow the rules that are established to keep everyone safe). We appreciate your modeling of these behaviors during drop-off and pick-up.

• All students may be dropped off at the Olive St. gate beginning at 7:50am. Students will go directly to their assigned areas to wait for their teachers.

• TK and Preschool students will be dropped off in the primary parking lot gate off Magnolia and Buena Vista. This is a one way drop off area, so please enter to the right and circle around before exiting.

• Please use the right drop-off lane for students exiting or entering the car. Students will not be permitted to enter or exit cars that are in the pass thru lanes. Parking is only permitted in marked spaces in any parking lot. If you feel the need to park, please use designated spaces or park on the streets adjacent to the school.

Please look forward to receiving information on School Site Council. For the 2023-2024 school year, Olive is looking for five parents to sit on SSC. SSC membership is a two-year term with approximately four meetings throughout the school year

Orange Unified School District will be serving meals at no charge to all enrolled students. The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) has approved waivers for local school divisions and other federal meal program sponsors to implement the Seamless Summer Option of the National School Lunch Program to provide meals to children in the community free of charge.

If your child will need medication at school during the school year, please have your health care provider fill out the following form. Bring the completed form and medication to the health office before the beginning of the next school year in August, 2024.

Section 5 of Article IX of the California Constitution guarantees students a “free and appropriate public education”. The State Supreme Court concluded in the 1984 case of Hartzell v. Connell, “that all educational activities carried on by public school districts, extracurricular as well as curricular, must be without cost to the students who participate in such activities”. This same ruling found that “mandatory fees for participating in such extra-curricular activities as drama, music, and athletic competition were illegal under the State constitution”. Furthermore, the State Supreme Court also rejected the argument that “fees could be charged as long as the district waived fees for students who were financially unable to pay”. I would like to assure you that Olive Elementary School does not engage in a “pay for play” system.

Dear Parents,

In compliance with the requirements of the Every Students Succeeds Act, Olive Elementary School would

like to inform you that you may request information about the professional qualifications of your student’s teacher(s) and/ or paraprofessional(s). The following information may be requested:

• Whether the student’s teacher:

- has met State qualification and licensing criteria for the grade levels and subject areas in which the teacher provides instruction;

- is teaching under emergency or other provisional status through which State qualification or licensing criteria have been waived; and

- is teaching in the field of discipline of the certification of the teacher.

- Whether the child is provided services by paraprofessionals and, if so, their qualifications.
