Greetings Vikings!
After a busy summer of building repairs and improvements, along with staff trainings and goal setting workshops, we are thrilled to be rounding the corner to the start of the 2024-25 school year.
I can feel the energy and anticipation building across our community. The start of a school year is always a time of renewal and opportunity, where students, staff, and families come together to create a vibrant learning environment.
Welcome Days
One of the highlights leading up to the first day of school is our district’s Welcome Days events. These gatherings are more than just an administrative task—they’re a celebration of the relationships that form the foundation of our schools. Welcome Days provide students and families with the opportunity to meet teachers, connect with classmates, and take care of all the necessary back-to-school logistics. Please prioritize attending! Building specific information will be emailed to you tomorrow. By handling these details early, we ensure that when the first day of classes arrives, everyone can focus on what truly matters: learning.
2024-25 Student/Parent Handbook
The 2024-25 Student/Parent Handbook is available for download below. The handbook contains important information and clarity of processes and procedures that families need to know; Parents/guardians and students will be better set up for success by being familiar with its contents. For access to the handbook throughout the school year, information can be found on the Parent/Student Resources webpage. If you would like a paper copy of the Student/Parent Handbook please contact Pakou Lee at 651-674-1011 or plee@isd138.org.
Lots of information will also be coming your way from each respective building this week. It’s a great time to be a Viking!

Changes to student use of cell phone and personal electronic devices at school
In the last Minnesota Legislative Session, school districts were directed to adopt restrictions on the use of cell phones and electronic devices. Here at NBAPS, we were already in the process of engaging parents, students and staff in preparation for changes to our district policy. These videos were made to share the purpose of making changes to our policy. More detailed information will be shared later this week from each building regarding student expectations and procedures.
At NBAPS, all students grades 5 - 12 are issued a district-owned Chromebook. Students are expected to use these devices to support classroom activities, educational research or professional enrichment. Students in grades 1-4 will have some access to Chromebook devices to support their learning throughout the school year. For more information about the NBAPS Chromebook 1:1 program please use the following link to review the Chromebook Handbook.

School supplies
For the 2024-25 school year, NBAPS is partnering with the Greater Twin Cities United Way, which has provided the district with free school supplies for distribution. Thanks to this collaboration, there are 400 backpacks ready for elementary students and 208 backpacks for middle school students.
The backpacks will serve as a great starter pack, containing the majority of the basic supplies needed for each grade. Families are encouraged to go pick one up if needed at their school's main office.
