Lake Orion High School
April 1st. 204
Welcome back from spring break Dragons! We hit this week back in full sprint, preparing for end of quarter three exams this Thursday and Friday. Reminder those two days are a half day for students with dismissal being at 10:45 a.m. Next week we have our state testing on April 9-11. Please see below "Exams and Testing Week" section for more details.
With spring on the horizon, it is imperative that we all contribute to maintaining our Thunder's commitment to Lake Orion's high standards every day. This includes having conversations about attending school every day, getting to class on time, dressing appropriately, and remembering that the purpose of school is to develop, grow, and sharpen those academic, social, and emotional skills necessary for our students to open any door in their future endeavors. Anything that gets in the way of that purpose needs to stay out of the halls of Lake Orion High School.
Together, let’s focus to make the last 10 weeks of this school year the most positive and productive of the 2023-24 school.
Protect the Thunder,
Dr. Haas
LOHS Principal

Exams and Testing Week
As a reminder, Term 3 exams will take place this week on Thursday, April 4 and Friday, April 5.
- April 4: 1st and 2nd period exams - 7:30 a.m. to 10:45 a.m.
- April 5: 3rd and 4th period exams - 7:30 a.m. to 10:45 a.m.
Students will be transported home shortly after the 10:45 a.m. dismissal using district transportation. AM pick-up times will remain the same as a normal school day.
Please note: Students who attend OSTC should plan accordingly, as the LOHS exams are required for successful completion of any course. Therefore, it is the student's responsibility to communicate their absence with their campus instructor.
In addition, State Testing week will be next week on Tuesday, April 9 through Thursday, April 11. Go to LOHS Website for Schedule details. With the SAT/PSAT now shifting to a digital format, this could bring new challenges for students, making preparation essential.
Here is why it's critical:
- Familiarity with Digital Tools - Students must be comfortable with digital tools like navigation menus and text highlighting.
- Time Management - Digital testing requires effective time management skills, practiced through digital test simulations.
- Adaptability - Adapting to new formats is vital for academic and professional success.
Here is how you can help:
- Encourage regular practice with digital test simulations.
- Ensure access to appropriate technology.
- Stress the importance of time management.
Your student has access to a full-length practice test through the College Board Bluebook App on their computer. Your support is key to your child's success. Let's work together to help prepare them!

Free Tutoring
Dear LOHS Parents,
Lake Orion High School is extremely excited to announce a continuation of our free tutoring program. This program will allow your child to connect directly with LOHS staff in specific content areas (math, science, social studies, etc.) outside of normal school hours. These tutoring sessions are one hour and can take place either in person or virtually through Microsoft Teams (this is decided between the tutor and the student(s) in the group). This tutoring is intended as remediation as opposed to homework help; however, homework is often utilized to teach skills. As we do not have an inexhaustible number of tutors available, this program is on a first come, first serve basis.
To sign up your child, please fill out this form.
If you have additional questions, please contact Cathy Srock at Catherine.Srock@LOk12.org.
SERVICE HOURS SPOTLIGHT
Service hours must be completed through a non-profit organization or event that benefits the community and should focus on making a positive impact on others. Students may not complete service hours by “helping” in a business as free labor. Additionally, students may not choose to not be paid and count that as service hours, such as babysitting and animal care. Please review Rules and Regulations of Hours on the LOHS Service Learning website.

Distinguished Dragon Submission
Thank you for taking the time to recognize one of Lake Orion Community Schools' staff members for their excellence.
The intent of the Distinguished Dragon program is to ensure that staff members who go above and beyond their regular duties are appreciated. The additional effort or support can range from helping an individual to helping a group or any effort that seems worthy of praise.
The staff member can be nominated by a student, parent, community member or even their own colleague. We ask for the submitter's name and contact information to follow up with specific questions if necessary.
