CompSci Weekly
February 3, 2025- February 7, 2025
Principal's Message
Dear CompSci Middle Community,
This has been a fast week here at school, and I can't believe it is already Friday. We had lots of activity here. The afterschool clubs started back up, our boys basketball team had a real nail-biter for their last home game, and we had a visit from CompSci high to meet with our 8th graders. There is an Open House at the high school tomorrow at 10:00, so go check it out.
The big news of the week is our school was just awarded the "Magnet School of Distinction" award for 2025. This award is a huge honor and recognizes all of the work that goes in to getting our theme into the hands of our students. A huge shout out to our theme coach Diana Beardsley for all of her work, and to all the teachers for always being willing to learn something new. Congrats to all!
Lastly, we will have our next PTO meeting is on zoom on Wednesday, February 6th, at 6:00 pm. a link will be emailed out on Tuesday. Please join us!
Have a great weekend,
Jill Wnuk

Students attending the Academy of Computer Science & Engineering Middle School for 8th grade have 4 possible 9th-grade options available through the Regional School Choice Office (RSCO). The deadline is February 7, 2025.
1. Direct Pathway: All students currently enrolled in the 8th grade at CompSci Middle are guaranteed a spot at CompSci High School, which serves as our direct pathway school. To secure your place, complete the RSCO application for magnet schools and select the Academy of Computer Science & Engineering High School as your first and only choice for high school. You can access the application on the RSCO website (https://www.chooseyourschool.org) by clicking the “Apply Now” tab.
2. Interdistrict Magnet Schools: Magnet programs offer hands-on learning experiences focused on specific themes or specialized programs, like Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM), visual and performing arts, International Baccalaureate, Montessori, and many more.
3. Connecticut Technical High Schools: There are three Connecticut Technical Education and Career System (CTECS) high schools in the Greater Hartford Region: A.I. Prince Technical High School (Hartford), E.C. Goodwin Technical High School (New Britain), and Howell Cheney Technical High (Manchester). With a combined emphasis on practical skills and traditional academic subjects, students participate in hands-on learning and career-focused training to prepare them for immediate employment, apprenticeships, and college.
4. Open Choice Program (Hartford Residents): The Open Choice Program for Hartford residents gives Hartford students an opportunity to attend high-performing public schools in nearby towns from PK4 through 12th grade. Schools in these districts offer excellent educational opportunities, including full access to challenging academic environments and enriching co-curricular activities like clubs, sports, arts, and community involvement. (seating is limited)
5. Open Choice Program (Non-Hartford Residents): The open Choice Program for non-Hartford residents allows students living outside of Hartford to attend certain non-magnet public schools in Hartford from kindergarten through the final grade at the school. This program includes specialized programming tailored to enhance students' educational experiences.
For more information please visit the Regional School Choice Office website at: https://www.chooseyourschool.org/
You can also contact Mr. Williams (mawilliams@crec.org) in the Guidance Office for assistance applying to these programs.
TRANSPORTATION STIPEND
January 7, 2025
Re: Parent/Guardian Transportation Stipend Reimbursement
Dear CompSci Middle Families,
The Connecticut State Department of Education’s Regional School Choice Office (RSCO) partners with the Capitol Region Education Council to operate a regional transportation system that serves the Greater Hartford school choice programs.
Generally, interdistrict transportation is available during regular school hours for students in kindergarten through grade 12 who reside in towns within the transportation zone. Non-Hartford resident PK3 and PK4 students and students who reside outside of the transportation zone and do not utilize RSCO transportation services in another town, may be eligible to receive a transportation stipend.
As a parent/guardian, if you feel you are eligible to receive this stipend for the reasons listed below, please click on the link to complete the transportation stipend reimbursement form.
a) You transport your PK3 or PK4 aged student to and from school because transportation is not otherwise provided.
b) You live outside of the transportation zone, and other transportation options have not been set up with RSCO Transportation.

The deadline to submit the 2024-2025 transportation stipend reimbursement form is June 15, 2025. Please consider submitting this form as early as possible. Upon submission, you will receive a confirmation email which we encourage you to keep for your records. Reimbursement to approved families will be mailed in late August.
Should you have any questions regarding this matter, please contact RSCO Transportation at 860-524-4077.
Thank you,

https://kireland.wufoo.com/forms/parentguardian-transportation-reimbursement-form
