Principal's Message
Partial Solar Eclipse on April 8
On April 8, the Atlanta area will experience an 80% partial solar eclipse. The partial eclipse will begin around 1:45 p.m., hit maximum at 3:04 p.m., and end at approximately 4:21 p.m.
Since the best viewing will occur after school is over, we will not host a viewing party at school. The county is providing solar glasses through which students can safely view the eclipse at home.
It is essential that all students, parents, and staff understand the safety concerns connected with this event. Looking directly at the sun without protection, during a solar eclipse or otherwise is dangerous. You risk damaging your retina and the worst part is that you may not feel the damage until 4-12 hours later. Looking directly at the eclipse without the glasses on can cause permanent damage to the retina of the eye.
If you have concerns or would like to check your child out early so you can view the eclipse in its entirety, please plan to check your child out prior to 1:00 p.m. Absences and early check-outs on Monday, April 8, will be marked excused.
Prior to Monday, April 8, please review the safety expectations with your child(ren) regarding wearing the solar eclipse glasses when viewing the eclipse.
Your Proud Principal,
Karen
PBIS At-Home Tip of the Week
Hold a family conference.
Family meetings tend to have a bad reputation, because most families only hold them when there is something wrong. In this meeting, begin with what the household is doing well. Be positive and specific. After discussing the positive social behaviors, ask household members to identify behaviors that could use improvement, and provide some of your own observations as needed.
Splash Into Kindergarten
Parents of rising Kindergartners, we'd like to invite you to our Splash Into Kindergarten! On Friday, April 26th, please join us from 9:00 -10:00 a.m. to learn more about Kindergarten at Dolvin. There will be a presentation for parents and a special tour for our rising Kindergartners. If your rising Kindergartner is a current Dolvin Pre-K student, they will not attend the tour, they will be provided with a tour during their school day at Dolvin. That said, we'd love to have parents of Dolvin Pre-K students join us for the parent meeting. We look forward to seeing you there!

Volunteers
As of January 3, 2024, Fulton County Schools is utilizing the CheckMate Sign-In system to welcome visitors and volunteers into our schools. CheckMate has replaced the Raptor system. Unfortunately, the Volunteer Registration system did not roll over into the new system and all School Volunteers will need to re-register. Any task that will allow you to interact with students will require you to register as a Volunteer. The new re-registration will be effective until May 31, 2026. We appreciate your understanding and apologize for any inconvenience. Please follow the link below to access the FCS Volunteer Registration page.
https://www.fultonschools.org/Page/9539
Important - All Visitors and Volunteers must remember to bring in their driver's license each time they sign in. The license will be scanned each time. Thank you for your patience as we are implementing this new safety procedure.
Rising 6th Grade Parents - School Governance Council (SGC)
Dear Rising 6th Grade Autrey Mill Middle School Parents,
It is time for the election of new members to our School Governance Council. The School Governance Council has one parent position open for election starting in July 2024. It is a two-year term.
Our School Governance Council (SGC) plays a critical role in the success of our school. The SGC works with school leadership and the community to help determine the long-term direction of the school, design innovative solutions to increase academic achievement, and serve as school ambassadors to the local community. Specifically, the School Governance Council has the following powers: • Create, approve, and monitor the implementation of the school strategic plan • Manage the Request for Flexibility process • Approve the annual budget recommendations and related allocations • Participate in the hiring of the principal, in the case of a vacancy • Provide annual feedback to the Area Superintendent on principal performance.
If you are interested in running for a position on the School Governance Council, please complete and submit a Parent Candidate Form . Forms will be available on Monday, February 5th.
We are very excited about the work of our SGC. We hope that you will consider running for a position! The Candidate Declaration period ends March 29th and voting will take place April 17th to April 24th. In the meantime, if you would like more information about the charter system or SGC elections visit Charter System (SGC) / Charter System Overview (fultonschools.org).
