Attendance - October 2024
Parents, let's continue our mission to Strive for 95%! Our goal is to have no more than 2 absences a month to keep our students on the path to success. Great news—for the month of October, we reached 93% attendance! It shows that every day truly counts. Let's keep up the momentum! Remember, good attendance means more learning, growth, and opportunity. Let's make showing up a family priority and keep our students on track. Together, we can reach that 95% and set our kids up for a bright future! 🚀📚
Unlocking the Classroom: Your Guide to Our Curriculum Storyboards!
Ever wondered what adventures your child embarks on each day at school? Curious about the exciting topics they explore in math, science, language arts, and beyond? Now you can get a glimpse into their learning journey with our Curriculum Storyboards!
We're thrilled to introduce this new resource designed to give caregivers a clear and engaging overview of what students are learning throughout the school year. These storyboards provide a visual roadmap of each grade level's curriculum, highlighting key concepts, skills, and learning experiences.
What are Curriculum Storyboards?
Think of them as a "sneak peek" into your child's classroom! Each storyboard outlines:
- Subject areas: A breakdown of the subjects covered throughout the year.
- Learning objectives: The key knowledge and skills students will gain.
- Sample activities: Examples of engaging projects and activities that bring learning to life.
- Assessment methods: How student learning will be measured.
Why are they valuable to you?
- Stay informed: Keep track of your child's academic progress and understand the "why" behind their learning.
- Spark conversations: Use the storyboards to initiate engaging discussions with your child about what they're learning and how it connects to the real world.
- Support learning at home: Discover ways to reinforce classroom concepts and extend learning beyond the school day.
- Strengthen school-home partnership: Gain a deeper understanding of our curriculum and how you can partner with us to support your child's success.
Where can you find them?
Our Curriculum Storyboards are easily accessible on our district website at this link
We encourage you to explore these valuable resources and use them to connect with your child's learning journey. We believe that strong partnerships between school and home are essential for student success, and our Curriculum Storyboards are just one way we're working to foster that connection.
Attendance Matters!!
Daily routines are essential for reducing stress and creating a sense of security!!
As long as your child is healthy, please encourage showing up to class when school is in session. Every day of school is an important opportunity for students to learn as well as connect to peers and their teachers.
We thank:
· Our students and their families who do their best to show up to class every day even when it isn’t easy.
· Our teachers who have gone above and beyond to help make school a welcoming learning environment where students can thrive.
· Our administrators who help us work together to ensure we are healthy and safe, feel a sense of community and experience the excitement of an engaging learning environment.
· Our many, many healers and helpers - the support staff and community volunteers who provide the extra hands and attention our children need.
Series on Reducing Screentime
How can gaming become an addiction?
An addiction is defined as a person's inability to control use of a substance or behavior, despite negative consequences. Some people who are engrossed in screen time or video games while ignoring other normal activities could be close to meeting this definition.
So why does this happen? The reward center in the brain releases dopamine in response to a pleasurable experience or hyperarousal. If a person experiences hyperarousal while playing video games, the brain associates the activity with dopamine. The person develops a strong drive to seek out that same pleasure again and again.
Dopamine is a powerful neurotransmitter in the brain. It helps sustain people's interest and attention, which is why it can hard for people to tear themselves away from a situation or behavior. It's also self-reinforcing. The more times people experience the behavior, the more dopamine is released, and the more driven they are to return to the behavior.
