ROCHESTER MIDDLE SCHOOL
NOTES FROM THE ADMINISTRATORS
Dear Rochester Middle School Families-
We have two weeks left before February break. This month we are finishing NWEA testing and heading into the second half of Term B.
On Friday, January 27th, we hosted the first Coffee with the Principal that focused on resources for students. Sarah Carri discussed Engage NH, MIchelle Asselin talked about My Turn, and Joss Birnie presented about Waypoint. Michelle and Joss’s information is included in the newsletter below. I have also attached the presentation to an email for parents and guardians. Thank you to those who attended. We look forward to hosting more events in the future.
On Friday, February 17th, we have an assembly schedule as staff members will play a basketball game against players from the RMS girls and boys teams. This is a school event for students and staff, but we will share all the pictures and videos from the event. We will especially send the ones where the staff make great basketball shots.
We will begin showcasing progress reports differently starting with this progress report. Parents will be able to log into Infinite Campus to see the Progress Reports. We will no longer send a paper copy home. If you cannot get access to IC, please contact Michaele Williamson (RMS Registrar): williamson.m@sau54.org. If you cannot get access at all, you can request a printed copy from the office.
As always please let us know if you have any questions. You can call the office at 603-332-4090. Have a great day!
Waypoint
Waypoint’s youth resource centers and overnight emergency shelter opened Oct. 31, 2022, taking a huge step in protecting NH’s most at-risk youth. The drop-in centers are located in Manchester and Rochester and are home to safe spaces that include laundry facilities, showers, a food pantry, clothing closet, and space for youth, ages 12–24 to get support and develop goals to change their course.
The overnight emergency shelter, located in Manchester, houses 14 beds, and provides young people, ages 18-24, low-barrier access to the overnight stays at the shelter, and all the services provided at the YRC during daytime hours.
These resources would not be possible without the work of NH providers, partners, advocates, law enforcement, school systems, and legislators, and the support of generous donors. We serve in gratitude to all.
MY TURN
MY TURN operates robust academic and employment training programs for young people aged 14 to 24 in high schools and communities across New Hampshire and North Central Massachusetts. Each program is unique and designed to meet the needs of the community it serves but all programs are built upon:
A comprehensive and effective workforce development model that combines classroom learning with hands-on activities and real world experiences;
A holistic approach to service provision with emphasis on community collaboration to generate the most opportunity for our participants;
A focus on outcomes that drives all activities from recruitment to follow-up to help our participants achieve their goals while documenting all achievements and challenges.
