Empowering Our Multilingual Learners and Staff
This year, Fremont's multilingual department joined a cohort through the DuPage Regional Office of Education to enhance our program alignment with evidence-based best practices. The District currently serves 297 multilingual students with goals of increasing growth, achievement, and inclusion. A total of 30 Fremont teachers hold an English as a Second Language (ESL) endorsement with four others currently working on earning their endorsement. The multilingual team remains committed to providing student support driven by individual needs and data.
The program design prioritizes ensuring that all students and staff receive the support necessary for success. Through a review of research and recommended service delivery models, we discovered that students with the highest levels of English proficiency, who perform within the average range on district assessments, are best served in general education classrooms. This approach aligns with Strategic Plan Objective 2.b.
For the 2025-2026 school year, the multilingual department will implement a clear framework for service delivery. Individual student data, including ACCESS and district assessment results, are being analyzed to systematically cluster students for next year. Higher levels of support will be provided based on individual needs. Additionally, the multilingual department will continue offering professional development and collaborating closely with general education teachers.

March Board of Education Meeting Recap
The meeting's Pledge of Allegiance was led by students from the Fremont Intermediate School PAWS Committee. In addition to the PAWS Committee, this month's recognition was also held for this year's Illinois State Board of Education Those Who Excel and Teacher of the Year award winners intermediate school band teacher Lisa Bordelon and Fremont PTO president Stacie Brown. The meeting also featured a performance by the Fremont Middle School eighth-grade jazz band in celebration of Music in Our Schools Month.
Giving Back to Those in Need
Students at Fremont Elementary School have been busy learning about the importance of helping others. The second-graders participated in their annual Spread the Love drive, collecting household items of need to benefit the Fremont Township Food Pantry. The goods collected by the students filled two large vehicles. Meanwhile, kindergartners are helping make the birthdays of underprivileged children in the Chicagoland area special by providing a Bright Birthdays bag to celebrate their big day. Together, they created 65 birthday bags, each filled with a cake mix, frosting, plates, napkins, birthday candles, and a stuffed animal.
Acceleration Procedures
Our goal in FSD79 is to challenge every student appropriately. Here are the procedures and guidelines that help to inform our decisions on course and grade level placements.
Please reach out to your child’s teacher or principal if you have questions about their current or future educational programming. Any request for grade level or subject acceleration needs to be submitted to your child’s current principal prior to Friday, April 11.

Ivanhoe Village Update
FSD79 is committed to keeping our community apprised of updates regarding the proposed Ivanhoe Village development. Fremont's Board of Education recently sent this letter to Village of Mundelein Mayor Steve Lentz informing him that the school district would be reaching out to surrounding school districts to inquire if any of them would have interest in annexing the 900+ acres of Wirtz property. If there is interest, FSD79 will pursue detachment of the property designated for the Ivanhoe Village development, thereby relieving our taxpayers of the unsustainable financial burden associated with supporting the projected enrollment growth.
The next meeting of the Village of Mundelein Board of Trustees is scheduled for Monday, April 14 at 7:00 p.m. at Village Hall. It is our understanding that the Village intends to approve an impact fee ordinance and an impact fee agreement between the Ivanhoe Village developers and the school districts at this meeting despite the lack of a negotiated agreement between the parties.
Kids Heart Challenge Raises over $40,000!
Just prior to Spring Break, students at Fremont Elementary School and Fremont Intermediate School participated in the annual Kids Heart Challenge (previously known as Jump Rope for Heart), which benefits the American Heart Association. We are thrilled to report that the two schools combined to raise over $40,000 for this terrific cause! We are so proud of our students for going out of their way to help others, while understanding the importance of heart health and remaining active.
