56G News
June 3, 2024
Dear 56G Families,
It is crazy to believe that summer is only three school days away! First, from the 56G staff, we want to extend our appreciation and gratitude to all of our families for their support, encouragement and understanding as we opened a new building and worked out unforeseen kinks along the way. Your grace and partnership were greatly appreciated. We are definitely looking forward to year two where we won't be navigating everything for the first time!
We also want to extend a huge thank you to our amazing PTC! We wouldn't have been able to do half the events we executed this year without their brainstorming, planning, and time to get things up and running. Our PTC was responsible for the first 56G fundraiser, Parent-Teacher Conference dinners, two book fairs, staff appreciation events, skating parties, supporting classroom/school initiatives, and the 56G End of Year Celebration! A huge shout out also goes out to our families for supporting the fundraiser as we would not have been able to do half of the things listed above without your support!
As we are closing out this school year, we are also saying "goodbye" to two very important educators at 56G as they enter retirement. Please help me thank and congratulate Mrs. Bouwens (fifth grade ELA) and Mrs. VanZalen (sixth grade counselor). Both of these educators have touched countless lives in HPS with their dedication, love, and passion for teaching and learning. We wish both of these marvelous ladies best wishes as they set off on their next adventure in retirement!
Finally, as we enter into our last few days of school at 56G, we want to wish our sixth grade students the best as they transition on to Baldwin Street Middle School. To celebrate the successes they have had this year, we will be clapping them out on the last day of school on Wednesday, June 5th. We would like to invite our sixth grade parents and families to help support us during this clap out. Please see below for more information on the clap out. We are looking forward to a great day of reminiscing on the mark that these sixth grade students have left at 56G. Their leadership, voices, and vision have helped shape and create a strong foundation for future students at 56G. Thank you Class of 2030! We cannot wait to see where life takes you next!
Wishing all of our families a safe and happy summer vacation!
In partnership,
Melanie

Talent Show
Thank you to Juliet Dykema and Olivia Steketee for their time and efforts in successfully planning and implementing our first ever sixth grade talent show. We were able to enjoy 15 different acts of highly talented sixth grade students playing various instruments, signing solos or duets, performing in ensembles, and dancing. It was a great way to bring our school together one last time before the end of the school year. Thank you for starting a 56G tradition for us to continue for years to come!
Congrats, Mrs. Bouwens!
Forever in Our Hearts & Always an Eagle!
Congrats, Mrs. VanZalen!

Students going into 7th grade will keep Chromebooks and chargers over the summer. Students needing repairs will turn in their device the last week of school, and the tech department will contact families when repairs are finished.
Please follow these guidelines for device care.
Students can use their devices for a variety of productive purposes, including the Summer Soar program, which will help them be ready for next year. There are prizes available. See the site for full details.
7th Grade Immunization Requirements
Most 6th grade students need a couple of new immunizations (Meningitis and T-dap) after turning 11 and before entering 7th grade. Students are assessed as they enter 7th grade and must be up-to-date before they can start school for their 7th grade year. As your 6th grader has their well-child check-ups and receives the updated immunizations, please obtain a copy of their updated official immunization record and give a copy to the BMS office anytime this year. (We are required to have a copy of this official document in their file.)
BMS Open House
Students will receive their schedules and have an opportunity to walk the building and meet their teachers. All annual registration will be sent in August and can be completed online.
