2024-09-20 Weekly Update
Good day, CARDINALS!
It's been a busy week for our Cardinals. Our junior varsity and varsity Boys' soccer teams and our junior varsity and varsity girls' volleyball teams show much growth as the season progresses. Our lunch/recess and after-school clubs are also buzzing with activityβa lot of great things are happening at Golf!
Our "What I Need" (WIN) program will be fully implemented starting next week. On Mondays and Fridays, students will have their regular advisory lessons. Students will be grouped during the Advisory period based on MAP data and local assessments on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays. There will be three smaller groups per grade level for students needing extra support in reading, math, or English language acquisition. Depending on the number of students in each grade level, an enrichment experience will be offered to supplement their understanding of various topics. These enrichment sessions will change every 10-12 weeks. The size of the smaller reading and math groups may also vary. Teachers will provide more details about the WIN program. The school staff is enthusiastic about giving this new learning opportunity to all students!
We want to reiterate the importance of adhering to our parking policy, particularly when using the parking lot on the north side of the school. The larger parking lot south of the school is the designated area for afternoon pick-up. We appreciate your cooperation in this matter.
Go Cardinals!
Mr. Martin Hopkins and Dr. Nate Carter
Co-Interim Principal

π« The Carro Commons
On August 7, 2024, we welcomed the family, friends, colleagues, and former students of Brian Carro - an exceptional member of our school community who contributed significantly as both a student and a teacher - to a dedication ceremony of the Carro Commons. Brian lost a valiant battle with glioblastoma on September 25, 2023. He left an indelible mark on the hearts and minds of those who had the privilege of knowing him. We miss him every single day.
The Carro Commons recognizes the life Brian breathed into this building and provides a place of remembrance for those who knew him and a place of inspiration for those who did not. Thank you to the D67 School Board, the admin team, and our buildings and grounds staff for supporting this project which included paint, pictures, and quotations. Without the drive and talents of Alison Kutschke and Anne Moss, this space would not exist. Friends of Mr. Carro contributed a hockey jersey to celebrate his love of competition and Chicago sports. It is our hope that the Carro Commons will help the GMS community become a little bit more like the best parts of Brian for years to come. If you missed the ceremony, here is a short video tribute celebrating Mr. Carro.

Spectator Expectations:
- Use kind and appropriate language. Use of profanity, insults, or negative language will not be tolerated.
- Treat peers, athletes, parents, coaches, and officials with respect.
- Be present and watch the game.
- Eat any food behind the chairs and clean up after yourself.
- Remain on school grounds at all times (e.g., do not leave to go home or go to Walgreens and come back).
- Remain in your designated space before and during the event.
- Use of phones is prohibited unless you are calling or messaging your parent/guardian.
- This includes general use, taking pictures, or recording videos
- Listen to and follow all directions from the supervisor.
If a student was sent to the office at any point in the day due to negative behavior or received consequences on a day when an event is scheduled, they are not able to attend the event. Students are also reminded that failure to follow these expectations may result in a student being issued a consequence. It's important to understand that these rules are in place to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for all. We hope that all students will make positive choices and cheer on our Cardinals!
