Mrs. Campbell's Notes
As we settle into the new school year, I want to emphasize a few key areas that can help ensure a successful year for all our students.
1. First, regular attendance is crucial. Being in class every day allows students to stay on track with their learning and participate in the collaborative environment we foster here at school. Last year we had 55 students miss 16 or more days of school. We have to do better! As a building, we will track attendance between homeroom classes as a monthly competition. We will then have an overall class winner each semester with the best attendance percentage for a large prize. Please help at home by ensuring students come to school unless they are sick.
2. I encourage you to have open conversations with your child about their school day, helping them reflect on what they are learning and any challenges they might be facing. Questions to start a conversation might go like: "What was your objective or "I can" statement in _________ class today?" "What WIN session did you attend in the morning and afternoon?" "Were you assigned to a WIN for extra intervention?" "If you were assigned to a WIN, do you now understand the concept you were working on?" "Who's your favorite teacher and why?"
3. Organization is another vital skill for academic success. Whether it's keeping a tidy backpack, maintaining a planner, or setting aside time for homework, these habits will help your child manage their workload effectively. I hope you've all asked to see your child's planner and looked through it with them as a tool for home/school communication. Once our initial diagnostic testing is complete in IXL, students will chart their progress on their tracking sheets in their planners along with other testing data, making goals for how they'd like to perform on future assessments.
4. Lastly, I value open communication between home and school. If you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to reach out. Working together, we can support our students in reaching their full potential this year.
I look forward to a great month ahead!

Staff Phone Numbers
Did you know staff members have direct phone lines into their classrooms/offices? If you call a staff member's direct line, you will be directed straight to their voicemail. Once you leave a message, staff members will receive an email with the message and will return your phone call within 24 hours. Please, do not hesitate to reach out through phone or email, but with the direct lines, you are able to have the best of both worlds. You do not have to call the office first, which eliminates the middle man.
The phone numbers are attached in a document below.

Reading a Little Goes a LONG Way
New Face in the Library
She may be new to the library scene at KMHS, but Laura Ceely is not new to the building! Mrs. Ceely is now the Media/Literacy Aide. She is excited to be in the library and has many exciting, new ideas to implement as the school year progresses to promote library use and reading. When you see her out and about, welcome her as the new KMHS librarian!
And remember: Encourage your kids to read at least 15 minutes per day. Just 15 minutes of reading a day provides positive gains in reading skills and achievement. For more on “the magic of 15 minutes,” click here. We received many new books over the summer based on the students’ wishlist and requests–send your students to our library to check out a book or two for at-home reading!
