Narwhal Newsletter
March 17th, 2024
Hello Marsh Creek,
I hope that everyone is having a great weekend. This week marks the final week of the 3rd Marking Period, and students will begin their Spring Break next week. Our Home and School Association will be meeting to plan this year's spring dance, called the Spring Fling, which will take place on Friday, May 3rd here at Marsh Creek. Please see below for more information on how you can help plan this exciting event, and please consider helping us ensure that the students have an awesome experience! Our district is also hosting a Job Fair on Wednesday evening for anyone interested in becoming a part of the DASD team. Please see below for more information about the Careers in Education Job Fair taking place at Downingtown West High School. On Friday, schools across the district will be celebrating Unity Day. All students and staff are encouraged to wear blue and gold, and to celebrate our shared values of unity, respect, inclusion, kindness and empathy. We look forward to seeing the students return tomorrow!
As we move into Spring Break, and prepare to start the 4th Marking Period, I would like to say thank you for allowing us to be a part of your student's life. It is truly an honor, and is the part of my life that brings me the greatest joy. I hope that you and your family get the opportunity to spend time together, and to rest and relax as we begin the final chapter of the students' sixth grade experience. Thank you all for your support of our students, and our wonderful community. I hope that everyone has an amazing week, and a restful Spring Break!

Marsh Creek Math Counts Team
Congratulations to Marsh Creek's Math Counts team! Coached by Mrs. Allen, this team had Marsh Creek’s best-ever showing on Saturday with 3 students placing in the top 10 overall, and one team taking 2nd place in the team competition.
Rishi Marri, Azim Julkipli, and Shawn Ruan proudly earned a spot in the top 10. In the final Countdown round, Shawn came away with the win.
In the Team Competition, the fearsome foursome team of Azim, Shawn, Cody Benner, and Om Chauhan took second place overall. Congratulations to all the students who participated. We are very proud of you!!
Marsh Creek 100 Page Challenge
In honor of Read Across America in March, we will have a gift basket drawing available in the Library. If students read 100 pages, they can earn one entry for the gift basket. For each slip that they turn in, they get one entry in the drawing. Slips can be picked up in the Library.
Welcome to Marsh Madness!
Our students are participating in a math intervention and enrichment program called Marsh Madness. This opportunity is designed to enhance our children's mathematical skills and create excitement for the students! Spiraling back on previously learned skills, and providing enrichment opportunities using the IXL program, students will have the opportunity to earn tickets as they complete the skills and activities assigned to them. These tickets can be used to earn prizes chosen by them, much like they would earn when playing arcade games to win tickets.
Students will be turning in their Skill Sheets to their math teacher every Monday, and will be earning tickets that can either be entered into our Raffle Bags, or can be saved throughout the next few months to earn a larger reward. This week, we are wrapping up our Team Challenge, as each team will get to compete to see who can complete the most skills each week. Thank you for supporting and encouraging our students as they build their skills and confidence related to math!
ELD Family Night
The Downingtown Area School District has a diverse population that continues to grow and expand. We have families from many countries across the world. Combined, these families speak over 40 languages. This diversity enhances our DASD community.
To help these families feel welcome and connected, the DASD’s English Language Development (ELD) team hosts an annual ELD Family Night. The event will take place on Friday, April 12th from 6:00-7:30pm at East Ward Elementary School.
The ELD Team will be raffling off prize baskets. We are asking for theme items and gift cards. Any donation is appreciated. If you are interested in donating to this event, please use the link below to access the Amazon Wish List created by our families.
A collection bin will also be located in the front office. Thank you!!

Aidan's Heart Foundation CPR Certification Fundraiser
HELP SUPPORT OUR COMMUNITY'S YOUNG HEART HEROES!
Aidan’s Heart Foundation wants to provide FREE CPR certification classes for current Marsh Creek Narwhals! Please donate today to help make this possible!
Nearly all of our 1,100 Narwhals participated in basic CPR+AED skills training this past January with Aidan’s Heart Foundation. Recently, 30 members of the Marsh Creek Aidan's Heart Club received their official American Heart CPR certification cards. Now, the organization, in partnership with Good Fellowship Training Institute, wants to offer FREE certification classes to current Narwhals who want to take their skills to the next level. Please make a donation toward the foundation’s CPR Training programs to help provide three CPR classes this spring.
Please note, your donation helps support general AHF youth CPR training programs. It does not guarantee your child a spot in one of the upcoming certification classes at Marsh Creek. Interested students will be selected by random lottery. Information about how to register for the lottery will be coming out shortly.
Last year, we were able to certify all of the students who expressed interest, due to the generosity of the Marsh Creek school community! Please support Aidan’s Heart today!

Chromebook Care
The most frequent damage to a Chromebook is a cracked screen. Follow these tips to avoid damage.
- Always carry a Chromebook closed. Never hold a Chromebook by its screen and always use two hands to carry the device.
- If carrying the device from classroom to classroom, hold the Chromebook close to your chest much like a hug.
- Be sure to set a Chromebook on a flat surface during use and avoid slanted, uneven surfaces which could lead to the device sliding off and dropping to the floor.
For more tips about protecting your device, and information related to getting a protective case for your device, click the following link to our technology page. Thank you for your assistance!
