Dear Menchaca Families,

We are thrilled to welcome our students back to campus and are excited for all the learning and growth that this new year will bring. Students will return on Tuesday, January 7.

We understand that transitioning back to school after a long break can sometimes be challenging. Here are a few tips to help make the return to school smoother for your child:

• Establish a Consistent Routine – Encourage early bedtimes and morning routines to help students adjust to their school schedule.

• Prepare the Night Before – Pack backpacks, lay out clothes, and prepare lunches the night before to ease the morning rush.

• Positive Reinforcement – Talk to your child about the excitement of seeing friends and teachers again.

• Encourage Communication – Ask your child how they feel about returning to school and offer reassurance and support.

We are committed to making this transition as seamless as possible and are here to support you and your family every step of the way.

Please note that report cards will be made available next week. If you have any questions or concerns about your child's progress, we encourage you to reach out to their teacher. As always, our goal is to ensure that every student feels supported and empowered to succeed.

Queridas familias de Menchaca,

Nos complace darles la bienvenida a nuestros estudiantes de regreso al campus y estamos emocionados por todo el aprendizaje y crecimiento que traerá este nuevo año. Los estudiantes regresarán el martes 7 de enero.

Entendemos que la transición de regreso a la escuela después de un largo descanso puede ser un desafío a veces. Aquí hay algunos consejos para ayudar a que el regreso a la escuela sea más fácil para su hijo:

• Establezca una rutina consistente: Fomente horarios de dormir tempranos y rutinas matutinas para ayudar a los estudiantes a ajustarse a su horario escolar.
• Prepárese la noche anterior: Prepare las mochilas, coloque la ropa y prepare los almuerzos la noche anterior para agilizar la prisa de la mañana.
• Refuerzo positivo: Hable con su hijo sobre la emoción de volver a ver a sus amigos y maestros.
• Fomente la comunicación: Pregúntele a su hijo cómo se siente acerca de regresar a la escuela y ofrezca tranquilidad y apoyo.

Estamos comprometidos a hacer que esta transición sea lo más fluida posible y estamos aquí para apoyar a su familia en todo momento.

Tenga en cuenta que las boletas de calificaciones estarán disponibles la próxima semana. • College, Career, & Military Day (Students are encouraged to wear a college, military, or career/trade shirt to promote the skills, knowledge and abilities needed to succeed in life!)

• SPANISH - Parent Workshop: Dealing with Disobedience - 9 AM

• Morning Drop Off & Breakfast begins at 6:35 A.M.

• Drop-off gates close each morning at 7:10 A.M.

• Students who arrive after 7:10 A.M. are tardy.

• Students must be in class at the 10:00 A.M. attendance bell in order to be marked present.

• Changes to your child’s dismissal routine should be communicated to the front office and your child's teacher no later than 1:00 P.M.

• Student sign-out from the office ends each day at 1:45 PM to prepare for dismissal.

• Dismissal begins at 2:30 P.M. Students must be picked up no later than 3:00 P.M.

• Las puertas de entrada se cierran cada mañana a las 7:10 a.m.
• Los estudiantes que lleguen después de las 7:10 a.m. se consideran tardíos.
• Los estudiantes deben estar en clase a las 10:00 a.m. para ser marcados como presentes.
• Cualquier cambio en la rutina de salida de su hijo debe ser comunicado a la oficina principal y al maestro de su hijo a más tardar a la 1:00 p.m.
• La salida de estudiantes desde la oficina termina cada día a la 1:45 p.m. para prepararse para la salida.

• Stay In Your Vehicle. Our staff is ready to help unbuckle and unload your child as quickly as possible.

• Pull All the Way Forward. We have several staff members ready to open car doors and greet your child.

• Be Ready. When arriving at the drop off area (GYM), please make sure your child is awake, electronics & toys are put away, and backpacks/lunchboxes are within reach.

• Car Seats on the Right. To ensure the safest drop off procedures, we kindly ask that car seats/children are seated on the right side of the vehicle for unloading.

• Permanezca en su vehículo. Nuestro personal está listo para ayudar a desabrochar y bajar a su hijo lo más rápido posible.

• Avance hasta el frente. Tenemos varios miembros del personal listos para abrir las puertas del automóvil y recibir a su hijo.

• Esté listo. Al llegar al área de descenso (GIMNASIO), asegúrese de que su hijo esté despierto, que los dispositivos electrónicos y juguetes estén guardados, y que las mochilas/loncheras estén al alcance.

• Asientos de auto a la derecha. Para garantizar los procedimientos de descenso más seguros, le pedimos amablemente que los asientos de auto/niños estén ubicados en el lado derecho del vehículo para la bajada.

• Don't Forget Your Pick Up Tag. Drivers without the official MECC pickup tag will be directed out of the pick up line to the front office for a photo I.D. check.

• Stay In Your Vehicle. Our staff will escort your child to their car and help them into their vehicle.

• Pull the Tag Down. This lets our staff know that your child has been loaded into your vehicle and you are ready to be on your way.

• Utilize the Buckling Areas. If you need to assist your child with buckling (car seats/ seat belts), we kindly ask that you drive your vehicle to our designated buckling areas. Those areas include the back fence line of our building and both north and south parking lots. Again, please do not exit your vehicles in our student loading area.

• No olvide su etiqueta de recogida. Los conductores sin la etiqueta oficial de recogida de MECC serán dirigidos fuera de la línea de recogida hacia la oficina principal para verificar su identificación con una foto.

• Permanezca en su vehículo. Nuestro personal acompañará a su hijo hasta el automóvil y lo ayudará a subir.

• Baje la etiqueta. Esto le indica a nuestro personal que su hijo ya está en el vehículo y que está listo para partir.

• Utilice las áreas de abrochado. Si necesita ayudar a su hijo a abrocharse (asientos de auto/cinturones de seguridad), le pedimos amablemente que conduzca su vehículo a nuestras áreas designadas para abrochar. Estas áreas incluyen la línea de la cerca trasera de nuestro edificio y los estacionamientos norte y sur. Nuevamente, por favor no salga de su vehículo en el área de carga de estudiantes.

Did you know that when a student is absent from school, the student must bring a note signed by the parent/guardian that describes the reason for the absence from school.

Students who arrive after 10 A.M. are considered ABSENT. This does not mean your child should stay home. Staying home will make your student fall behind by missing an entire day of instruction. Students who are picked up prior to the 10 A.M. attendance bell will also be marked absent for the day.

If you pick up a student during the instructional day for an appointment, the student can return the same day with a doctor’s excuse and not be counted absent.

¿Sabía que cuando un estudiante falta a la escuela, debe traer una nota firmada por el padre/madre o tutor que describa la razón de la ausencia?

Los estudiantes que llegan después de las 10 a.m. se consideran AUSENTES. Esto no significa que su hijo deba quedarse en casa. Quedarse en casa hará que el estudiante se atrase al perder un día completo de instrucción. Los estudiantes que sean recogidos antes de la campana de asistencia de las 10 a.m. también serán marcados como ausentes por el día.

Si recoge a un estudiante durante el día escolar para una cita, el estudiante puede regresar el mismo día con una excusa médica y no será contado como ausente.

Each January, we honor the dedicated individuals who tirelessly serve their communities as volunteers — school board members. School boards oversee the operation of local public schools and work to ensure that students are getting a high-quality education. School Board Recognition Month is an opportunity to show trustees how much we appreciate their work, leadership, and commitment to improving our schools

Cada enero, honramos a los individuos dedicados que sirven incansablemente a sus comunidades como voluntarios: los miembros de la junta escolar. Las juntas escolares supervisan el funcionamiento de las escuelas públicas locales y trabajan para garantizar que los estudiantes reciban una educación de alta calidad. El Mes de Reconocimiento a la Junta Escolar es una oportunidad para mostrar a los miembros de la junta cuánto apreciamos su trabajo, liderazgo y compromiso con la mejora de nuestras escuelas.

School will be closed on Monday, January 20th, in observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day. This national holiday honors Dr. King’s dedication to justice, equality, and unity. It’s a time to reflect on his powerful legacy and consider ways to promote kindness and service in our communities.

La escuela estará cerrada el lunes 20 de enero en conmemoración del Día de Martin Luther King Jr. Este feriado nacional honra la dedicación del Dr. King a la justicia, la igualdad y la unidad. Es un momento para reflexionar sobre su poderoso legado y considerar maneras de promover la bondad y el servicio en nuestras comunidades.
