Traffic Concerns
The Board is working with the Council and Police to try to improve safety at our school gate. In the meantime…
Before School:
Do not park and leave your car on the left hand side (school side) of Papakura-Clevedon Road - this blocks the drive through line.
Pull over to the left hand side verge (school side) of Papakura-Clevedon Road so through traffic can pass safely.
Drive up to the Junior gate so that as many cars as possible can queue off Papakura-Clevedon Road.
After School
Do not park in the staff car park or behind the staff cars in the bus bay.
Being on Time for School
School starts at 9am. Please endeavour to have your tamariki here on time. The start of the day contains very important routines to help tamariki settle for a day of learning.
The Ministry of Education track attendance and we are alarmed at the number of Ardmore children arriving late regularly every morning.
Illness
Please keep sick children at home. If your child has a vomiting bug we ask that you keep them home for 48 hours after their last vomit.
We want to keep everyone safe.
Paid Union Meeting (PUM)
Teachers will be attending a Paid Union Meeting in the afternoon on Thursday 28st March between 1:00pm – 3:00pm. Under the Primary Teachers Collective, NZEI is able to hold up to two Paid Union Meetings per year.
Parents and caregivers may pick their child/children up early at 12.30pm.
The school bus and after school care facilities will operate at the usual time - 3pm
Children remaining at school will be supervised by staff.
Cellphones at School - Government Policy ‘Away for the Day’
As you may have heard, all state schools and kura are required by the Ministry of Education to have student cell phone rules in place no later than 29 April.
At Ardmore School we already have policies and processes regarding cell phones in place to ensure the Health and Safety of our students.
Our Digital Technology and Online Safety policy states that at Ardmore School, we aim to prevent digital incidents by:
recognising prevention is better than response
balancing promotional (e.g. resources and interventions) and protective (e.g. reducing risk) strategies
In line with this policy:
Digital technology devices may include computers, tablets, storage devices, cameras, phones, handheld PCs and consoles, smartwatches, video/audio devices, e-readers, and other similar devices.
In an effort to reduce any Health and Safety risks upon our ākonga, smartwatches with communication, photo and video capabilities fall under this new regulation.
Our approach, as with our previous procedure, is “away for the day”, meaning the device should be turned off, and handed in to the teacher to be locked away during the school day.
We strongly recommend students do not bring these devices to school with them. If a parent or caregiver needs to contact their child urgently during the day, they should call the front office.
If staff see a student using a personal digital device inappropriately or without permission during the school day, we will confiscate it. After the student locks the device, we place it in the office to be collected by a parent or guardian.
Staff Changes:
We recently farewelled Ms Georgia Scherini who is now on maternity leave. We’ll look forward to her return next year.
At the end of the term we farewell Mrs Shirlyn Kumar who is taking up at a new role at Strathallan School. Mrs Kumar has been particularly supportive of our culturally and linguistically diverse tamariki. Her leadership of our Bollywood Dance Group was outstanding and we will all miss her support throughout the school.
School Library News
A big thanks to Bex Robinson and Helen Walton for helping cover books for the library. This is quite a time consuming job and so we really appreciate them giving up their spare time to help out.
Book Week 2024
Enviro Group
What an exciting month it has been for our Ardmore Enviro Group! The Year 5-8 Enviro students kicked off March with a once in a lifetime trip to Tiritiri Matangi Island. This pest and predator free sanctuary island became a source of great inspiration for our tamariki, growing our commitment as kaitiakitanga as we got up close and personal with some incredible creatures. We were guided across the motu by our volunteer guides who helped us to learn about the species we were seeing and hearing along the way. We were exceptionally lucky to spot some very rare taonga: Wētāpunga and Kōkakō! Students had the opportunity to investigate and explore using microscopes and binoculars and supported the continued conservation work on the island through purchasing some treasurers at the Gift Shop!
Students came away from this experience feeling inspired and excited about the ways we at Ardmore can follow the lead of the exceptional conservation workers on Tiritiri. Stay tuned for some of our planting projects that we hope will encourage our precious manu to visit us here at Ardmore School!
ENVIRO 2024
Our Enviro Group is growing this year with a whopping 80 students across the Piwakawaka, Tui and Ruru whānau! This year our focus is on our local environment, growing our capacity as kaitiakitanga for our whenua through projects that allow students hands-on experience with the land. We are participating in another year of Trees for Survival, growing our native trees and grasses here in our shade house and heading off to plant them locally in August. We are planning a large planting project here at the school with the help of the One Billion Trees Foundation, revitalizing our gardens with Bunnings Warehouse and getting our Compost Program up and running with the help of the Compost Collective!
Stay tuned for more updates as the year progresses!

ECCS Football Fun Day
Last Thursday fifty three eager Tūī and Ruru Whānau tamariki participated in the E.C.C.S. Football Funday at McLennan Park in Papakura. The five teams played football against teams from the other East Counties Country Schools. Our Ardmore students made us very proud by consistently displaying a positive attitude and sportsmanship towards the other teams. While the start of the day was wet, by morning tea, the rain had dried up and the sun and heat arrived. The weather did not dampen the students spirits or enthusiasm. Our tamariki all played their hardest and had a great day.
Thank you to all of the parents who gave up their time to supervise teams and referee games. Thank you also to Miss P and Miss Sangster who organised the Ardmore teams and event.
At the end of the Funday seven Year 7 and 8 students, who have played football for a club, trialed for the E.C.C.S. Football teams that participate in the Counties tournament next week. Congratulations to Maximilian Gosney and Arnav Singh, who were selected for the Year 7 and Year 8 teams. We wish them luck.
GRIP Leadership Conference
On Friday 15 March, Ardmore's School and House Leaders travelled to the Due Drop Events Centre in Manukau to attend the GRIP Leadership Conference. Throughout the day the students covered four topics, How Everyone Can Step Forward and Lead, The Sacrifices of a Student Leader, Stepping Forward with New Ideas, and Doing the Things that Leaders Often Forget. These sessions provided students with the tools, ideas, activities, and learning needed to extend their leadership journey. We look forward to hearing amazing things from these students in the future.
