May's Principal's Message with Mrs. Lango
Dear CAS Families,
Happy May! It’s hard to believe we are in the final stretch of the school year. This month is filled with exciting events, celebrations, and important milestones. I want to take a moment to thank you for your continued support throughout the year. Together, we have built a strong community focused on the growth and success of every student. I would also like to provide a huge shout out to our PTSA for all of the support they provide to the staff and students. We know it takes a village, and there is no better village than Hamburg! Our Literacy Night was a huge success. It was incredible to see so many of you come on a beautiful night to celebrate student's writing and meet and learn from prominent members of our community: Hamburg Fire Department; Hamburg Police; Hamburg Recreation; Feed More of WNY; Tricia Miller (our very own community garden expert); Jennifer Garrigan
As we wrap up the school year, I want to personally thank each of you for being such an essential part of our school family. Your encouragement, partnership, and support mean more than words can say. Let’s finish the year strong — and enjoy every moment along the way!
Warmly,

May RESPONSIBILITY: Take Care of Others
Hello CAS Families,
Encouraging kids to be responsible for something or someone beyond themselves sends
them a powerful message. It’s a way of letting them know, “I believe in you”, “I see how
you’re maturing and are ready to take on bigger things”. When we allow our kids the
opportunity to take care of others, they sense that vote of confidence we place in them,
and they rise to the occasion! This month, your child will choose a project that lets them
explore their capacity for responsibility by taking care of others (or other living things).
Taking care of others can look like lots of different things, such as taking care of someone younger, taking care of a pet, or caring for an elder (spending time with them, helping them with an errand or task, or simply keeping them company). It can be taking care of other living things like houseplants or tending a garden.
Project Ideas List:
*Take care of a pet (feed, walk, brush/groom, clean pet’s tank/cage, make a new feature for pet’s tank/cage).
*Babysit a younger sibling.
*Tend to a garden or take care of a houseplant.
*Build a fun activity or structure for your pet.
*Teach someone younger how to do something (a song, a game, how to play an instrument, a dance routine, how to draw something, how to tie their shoes, etc.).
*Make a snack or a meal for someone who can’t do that for themselves.
*Do an errand for someone who needs it.
What’s Next?
1. Let your child take the lead in planning. They will complete their own planning
sections. Use this month’s Project Ideas List or help them come up with their own idea.
2. Project time! Step back, so your child can step up. Leave the room to avoid your child
feeling pressured, and resist any temptation to jump in, or to help or supervise.
Remember, letting go is an act of bravery!
3. How did it go? Your child will answer reflection questions on their page, and you should
also think about your experience.
○ How did it feel to step back and let go this time? Easier or harder?
○ Did you learn anything new about your child or yourself?
○ Have you noticed any behavior or attitude changes in your child after doing a couple Let Grow Projects?
