CSP Tigerbots, Team 9072, Triumph at CHS Divisional FIRST Robotics Competition
The CLF High School robotics teams, Team Illusion (Chesapeake Math & IT Academy North) and the TIgerbots (Chesapeake Science Point) competed in the Week 3 FIRST robotics CHS District Severn MD Event at Archbishop Spalding High School from March 15 to March 17, 2024. The Tigerbots (FRC Team 9072), now in its second year, showcased their exceptional talent and hard work, delivering an outstanding performance.
FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) is an organization founded to inspire young people's interest and participation in science and technology. Central to FIRST's philosophy are the ideals of Gracious Professionalism® and Coopertition®, fostering a community where innovation, teamwork, and mutual respect thrive. The organization emphasizes competition, learning, leadership, and a commitment to inclusion and community impact. Through these principles, FIRST inspires participants to achieve excellence in science and technology while cultivating vital life skills and a passion for making a positive difference in the world.
Over the course of the last several months, students engaged in the designing, building, and programming of their robot, Sonic. This process challenged their engineering skills and fostered critical thinking, collaboration, and problem-solving abilities. With its unique challenges and objectives, this year's game required teams to think outside the box, and the Tigerbots rose to the occasion spectacularly.
Under the guidance of mentors like Lead Mentor David Kravets and Team Captain Megan Yeager, the team showcased their technical skills, strategic thinking, and creativity while emphasizing the importance of leadership and cohesive teamwork. The culmination of their hard work was a gripping finale at the event. Together with alliance members Team 686 (Bovine Intervention) and Team 1111 (Powerhawks), they clinched their victory in a tense three-round match that kept spectators on the edge of their seats. This success demonstrates the dedication of each team member, mentor, and supporter.
The Tigerbots’ victory positions them 15th in the Division out of 2,399 registered teams. It is with this momentum the Tigerbots are preparing for their next competition at the CHS District Owings Mills MD Event from March 22nd through 24th. This upcoming event is another opportunity for the team to demonstrate their abilities and to continue building on their success.
Congratulations to the Tigerbots on their well-deserved success! They are an inspiration for the future of STEM education, and we can't wait to see where their talent and drive will take them next.

District 25 Evening in Annapolis
The Chesapeake Lighthouse Foundation recently had the privilege of being invited and attending a memorable evening in Annapolis, MD. As part of the new legislative season, interest groups and District leaders came together to share insights on what is happening across District 25 in Prince George's County, MD. The event brought together elected officials from Prince George's County District 25 for an engaging and insightful event. Representing Chesapeake Math & IT South Elementary as the Principal, Parent, and Constituent of District 25 is an extreme pleasure. I had the opportunity to meet and interact with various officials, shedding light on the impactful work being done in our school community. During the evening, the District 25 elected officials shared their experiences of connecting with the community through virtual engagements on platforms like Zoom, speaking at promotions and other school and community events events, such as Home Owner's Association meetings throughout our district, as well as through various programs aimed at promoting community welfare and engagement. It was heartening to witness their dedication and commitment to serving the residents of Prince George's County, particularly in District 25.
The event also saw the presence of former representatives of District 25, including the current State's Attorney, Aisha Braveboy, who is a proud graduate of Largo High School in Prince George's County. Their presence, alongside other public officials, highlighted the collective effort towards supporting the growth of services in the county and fostering a thriving community environment. Notably, Angela Alsobrooks' community outreach team was also in attendance, further strengthening the connections between District 25 and Baltimore City. The collaborative spirit displayed during the evening underscored the importance of working together to address community needs and promote positive change.
Overall, the "District 25 Evening in Annapolis" was a resounding success, inspiring and motivating attendees to actively participate in advocacy efforts for local schools and communities. The event served as a beacon of hope and encouragement for educators and community members alike, emphasizing the significance of collective action in building a brighter future for all. As we reflect on this enriching experience, let us carry forward the spirit of collaboration and empowerment demonstrated during the evening, and continue to work towards creating a more inclusive and supportive community for the benefit of all Prince George's County residents, especially in District 25.
