OLIS CE Programs February 2017
Here's what's coming to OLIS CE in February
Next Generation Library Workshopk
Speaker(s): Office of Innovation, Office of Library & Information Services
The Office of Innovation and Office of Library and Information Services will host a Next Generation Library Workshop to help library teams reimagine how their library delivers services as part of the Studio Rhode Challenge. While teams from any library are encouraged to attend, we strongly encourage those interested in attending this workshop to review and draft of stage one of this application prior to the workshop. For potential applicants, the Workshop is an opportunity to gather feedback on early-stage ideas and proposals from leaders of the Office of Innovation and the Office of Library and Information Services. For others, the workshop will offer exposure to new tools, strategies, and materials to engage in rapid prototyping, collaborative design, crowdsourcing, ideation, user experience design, and community storytelling.
Registration required.

Financial Literacy @ Your Library Showcase
The Rhode Island Library Association's Financial Literacy Round Table (FLRT) is kicking off the new year by hosting a financial literacy resource fair - "Financial Literacy @ Your Library Showcase." The goal of this event is to provide an opportunity for community financial partners (librarians, organizations, government agencies, etc.) to showcase financial literacy programs and/or information available to libraries across RI during Money Smart Week 2017 (April 22-29) and year-round.
The Financial Literacy @ Your Library Showcase will feature simultaneous tabletop presentations (poster or multimedia), allowing attendees to explore the showcase, ask questions of presenters and network with library colleagues and community partners at their own pace. (Think speed dating meets library programming).
Stop by any time between 10 a.m. and noon to network with financial professionals and library colleagues to plan your financial literacy programs.
Refreshments will be served.
For more information, please contact Lori DeCesare or Chris Wallace Goldstein at FLRT@rilibraries.org

Oral histories are a powerful means to help us learn about the past and preserve a portrait of who we are for future generations. In this workshop participants will learn about podcasting equipment, the process and general ethical practice of interviewing, editing and archiving considerations, and programming ideas in public and school libraries. An optional follow up virtual session will be scheduled to share out experiences of “making history” in our libraries.
This workshop is part of the Media Smart Libraries program which was made possible in part by the Institute of Museum and Library Services Grant # LG-07-14-0045-14 and awarded to the URI Graduate School of Library and Information Studies. Attendance at this workshop could be applied to the Access & Use, Analyze & Evaluate, Create & Collaborate, Reflect, or Take Action digital badge.

Twitter for Librarians
Speaker(s): Catherine Damiani, Emerging Technologies Librarian, Weaver Library
Back by popular demand!
At this workshop, you will find out how libraries of all kinds are already using Twitter to good effect. Whether it is to broadcast your library events, converse with other professionals, or follow experts and resources, Twitter should be one of your library's communication tools. In this session you will learn how to use Twitter and discuss ways that this micro-blogging tool can facilitate the exchange of information. If you don’t have a Twitter account yet, we recommend that you create a Twitter account ahead of time and bring your own laptop or mobile device. If you have a Twitter account, bring the password and a device and join us for more practice and deeper understanding.
An optional follow-up one one hour virtual session will be scheduled and the information will be distributed to participants.
This workshop is part of the Media Smart Libraries program which was made possible in part by the Institute of Museum and Library Services Grant # LG-07-14-0045-14 awarded to the URI Graduate School of Library and Information Studies. Attendance at this workshop could be applied to the Access & Use, Analyze & Evaluate, Create & Collaborate, Reflect, or Take Action digital badge.
