8th Grade Ceremony
Thank you to all of the families and loved ones that came out for our 8th Grade Ceremony last night. We had a huge turnout and made many great memories together. It has been an absolute honor to lead this school and to be a part of your child's lives. I wish them all well on their journey to high school.
JGHS Clapout
On Thursday, our former SMS students that are now graduating from JGHS came through our school to do a clapout. It was a great experience for all of our students to look into their future of graduation.
Music Concert
I am filled with immense pride after witnessing the incredible talent displayed by our choir, band, and strings students at this week’s concert. Their performances were truly inspiring and showcased the hard work and dedication of our young musicians. I would also like to extend a heartfelt thank you to our exceptional music director, Renee Kuczeski, for her unwavering commitment and outstanding leadership in guiding our students to such a high level of excellence. This concert was a testament to the vibrant musical spirit within our school community.
Great work!
8th Grade Updates and End of Year Activities!
Cedar Point Trip
We are excited to take two buses full of students to Cedar Point on Tuesday, May 28th! All students attending will have a chaperone assigned to a small group of students for the trip. All students not attending the trip are expected to be in school on this day.
The students will meet in the school library by 6:30AM on Tuesday.
We are planning to be back around 6:30PM.
Breakfast
During 1st hour on May 31st, our 8th grade students will be invited to a special breakfast made by our kitchen staff. They will spend this time signing each other's yearbooks, signing their purchased tshirts, and watching the 8th grade video our WSMS Broadcasting class has made for them. Students who didn''t purchase a shirt are welcome to bring in their own shirt to have other students sign as I have many fabric markers for students to share.
Dance
To buy a ticket, students must have less than three days of suspension from February 26 through May 31, and no excessive tardies. Parents/guardians must also have signed the dance permission form (link below).
It's going to be a great time, we hope all 8th graders will join us!
VOLUNTEERS ARE NEEDED
SMS Lighthouse is looking for 8th grade parent volunteers at our dance on Friday, May 31st. We have shifts available for chaperones or just cleaning up. Please click the link below to sign up! All volunteers must have a current ICHAT on file.
8th Grade Clapout
On Friday, June 7th (our last day of school), we will be doing a clapout for our 8th grade students to celebrate them and give them an opportunity to walk around the school as a class for the last time as a middle school student.
Parents, we have had this tradition for years where we have a great surprise for the 8th graders once they exit the doors of the school. The clapout continues with all of their families and loved ones. Please keep it a secret from your 8th grader as it is such a flood of happy emotions when they see all of their loved ones out there celebrating them. I encourage families to bring balloons, signs, bubbles, flowers, really anything special for them as they exit the school and continue their clapout. Please plan to arrive and be in position at the counseling exit doors by 10:45am.
Quarter 4 RAPS Party- Day of Awesomeness
Our final RAPS party for this year is on Wednesday, June 5th (our last full day of school). Eligible students will be able to be outside with our many blowup attractions, we will have a DJ for the event, snacks, etc. It's going to be a great day! Please be sure you send your student in with socks, a water bottle, and sunscreen.
Parents, if you are able to donate items for this event. you can do so with the link below.

Michigan residents can visit the website to check the map for their home address and submit necessary corrections to the state internet map.
Attendance Update
Regular attendance is crucial for your child's academic success. Please make every effort to ensure your child attends school on time every day and stays throughout the whole day. Consistent attendance throughout the school day allows your child to engage in learning and maximize their educational opportunities fully.
Illness: If your child is not feeling well and cannot attend school, please notify us immediately. Students who are ill should not attend school to prevent the spread of illness to others.
Excused Absences: We understand that there may be instances when your child needs to be absent due to illness, medical appointments, family emergencies, or other legitimate reasons. Please notify the school in advance whenever possible to classify the absence as excused.
Unexcused Absences: Unexcused absences negatively impact your child's education. Absences without valid reasons will be considered unexcused, and appropriate actions may be taken per district policy.
Timely reporting of absences helps us maintain accurate attendance records and ensures that your child's absence is properly documented. Absences must be reported within 24 hours.
There are two convenient methods for reporting your child's absence to facilitate efficient communication and accurate attendance records.
You can notify your child's school through the dedicated attendance line. Please leave a detailed message stating your child's name, grade, and reason for absence.
You can report absences directly through MiStar, our secure online portal for student information. MiStar provides a user-friendly interface that allows you to submit absences.
Thank you for your ongoing support in creating a positive and productive learning environment for all our students.
