GCISD Summer Reading Programs for Students
GCISD Summer Reading- The Adventure Continues! Students who read over the summer are more successful during the school year. Students who have a choice in what they read are more likely to read over the summer. Take advantage of OverDrive, our district online digital library to access all the hottest titles at all reading levels. Don't forget to have your students keep track of what they read as part of their GCISD Reads Challenge. See our Summer Reading Flyer for more details.
- Read any eight books this summer and record them in your Summer Reading Journal. Tell us which part of the book is your favorite, and why.
- Bring your completed journal to a Barnes & Noble store between May 15th and September 3rd, 2018.
- Choose your FREE reading adventure from the book list featured on the back of the journal.
Half Priced Books - Read 15 minutes a day to keep up an appetite for reading all summer long. (Grown-ups may read aloud to kids who are still learning.) Slay dragons. Ride broomsticks. Unlock portals. Cast spells. FEED YOUR BRAIN® & fuel the power of your imagination this summer.
Scholastic - The Scholastic Summer Reading Challenge is a free, online reading program designed to help students turn the “summer slide”—the learning loss which can occur over the summer months—into a “summer leap” by discovering the joy and magic of reading for fun. Get ready for the best and most magical summer ever! Monday, May 7—Friday, September 7.
Chuck E. Cheese Reading Calendar - Keep track of your child’s reading progress or other summer goals, then take the calendar in to receive 10 FREE tokens. Check with your local store to make sure they participate.
Attention: Economics and World Geography Teachers
Aledo ISD is hosting their last free Professional Development session with SMU - Cox School of Business. They are presenting 4 more units from their Teaching Free Enterprise in Texas curriculum on June 7, 2018, from 9:00 am - 4:00 pm.

We wanted to make you aware of a new pathway to get to professional learning information you and your teachers may need (login is required). There is a newly added Professional Learning link on the menu within the C&I Departmental page. It will have the portal for FLEX learning (that will be updated and ready for "consumption" the week after students' last day of school), the document containing policy guidance for FLEX, and the 2018 Summer Professional Learning Smore.
Please consider putting this in campus newsletters and/or communicating it in ways that your teachers will know to find it.
