Emerson Update 04/11/25
EMERSON MIDDLE SCHOOL MISSION
PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE 04/11/25
Dear Emerson families,
We are thrilled to share our sincere gratitude for your incredible support during our first round of state testing. The implementation of the PSAT 8/9 went exceptionally well, and we were all extremely happy with how smoothly the day unfolded. Your commitment to ensuring your students arrived at Emerson on time and prepared to give their best effort was truly appreciated and significantly contributed to this success.
As we celebrate this achievement, we now turn our attention to the second round of annual state testing: the M-STEP.
We are continuing our progress with annual state testing, and students in the following grades will be taking the MSTEP tests in their respective classes:
- 8th Grade: Science and Social Studies
- 7th Grade: Language Arts and Math
Testing will begin on Tuesday, April 15th, and continue through Thursday, April 17th.
Please be aware that we will be operating on a Modified Bell Schedule throughout the entire duration of this MSTEP testing window. A detailed MSTEP Bell Schedule can be found later in this newsletter
We appreciate your understanding and flexibility as we implement this schedule to ensure a focused testing environment for all students.
On a different note, we want to extend a huge thank you to our National Junior Honor Society (NJHS) students and all those who contributed to their valuable work around the school grounds this past Wednesday. Their efforts truly demonstrated the core values of the NJHS, particularly service, and we are incredibly proud of their dedication.
Finally, as we look forward to hopefully some warmer weather, please remember that there will be no school next Friday, April 18th, in observance of Good Friday.
Thank you once again for your ongoing partnership and support of Emerson Middle School. We are confident that our students will continue to demonstrate their hard work and learning during the MSTEP assessments.
With Eagle Pride,
Bruce Rivera

Cell Phone Policy Reminders
Dear Parents,
We are writing to clarify the school's policy regarding cell phone and earbud use during the school day. To maintain a focused learning environment, we are strictly enforcing the following:
- No cell phone use is permitted during school hours: AWAY FOR THE DAY.
- No earbuds or headphones are allowed, including wearing them around the neck.
- (Exceptions are made for a few students with documented medical or anxiety needs.)
In the Classroom: (AWAY FOR THE DAY)
- Teachers will remind students of the policy at the beginning of each class.
- If a student uses a device, it will be stored securely until the end of the hour.
- If a student refuses to hand over their device, administration will be called to confiscate it.
During Lunch and in the Hallways: (AWAY FOR THE DAY)
- Administration will confiscate any cell phones or earbuds seen during lunch.
- Administration will also monitor and confiscate devices in the hallways during passing periods.
- Teachers are asked to remind students of the rules in the hallways, but not to confiscate the items themselves.
We appreciate your support in helping us create a distraction-free learning environment for all students.

Book Chat
Book Chat - Almost Full!
Our book chat for the final quarter is almost full. Our book was recommended by a student and voted on by the group: The Murder Game by Carrie Doyle. We still have room for 3 more students.
Book Blast Extended!
Students had the opportunity to sign up to get more books from the Book Blast before we closed it up for the year.
Students who chose to do this were allowed to take as many books as they wanted!
GAME DAY!
Once a month, we try to host a game day where students can interact with each other a bit more socially.

A few key things to note:
The Livonia Parent Advisory Committee (LPAC) seeks parent representation from each Livonia Special Education Program. Parent representative volunteers have a child/children with a disability(ies). The LPAC also provides advisory input on matters regarding improvement of Special Education services within our school district.
Our Facebook page shares information of interest to our families and students.
Here, you will find electronic flyers for programs and events geared toward kids!
We hope that you enjoy the many offerings from around our great community!
If you have a program that you'd like to advertise, please email your flyer to Stacy Jenkins at sjenkins3@livoniapublicschools.org for approval. We follow a set of guidelines for approval and are only able to accept flyers for non-profit organizations that benefit our local children.
Enjoy!
Emerson Clubs
Emerson Middle School has several clubs where students can connect with their peers, learn a new skill, or simply hang out with friends. We've had a volleyball club, robotics club, GSA club, walking club, Pokemon club and homework club. We would love to offer something for everyone! Our club list is always growing, and we're always open to new ideas. If your student has a dream club in mind or if you'd like to be an awesome advisor, let us know! Joining a club is a great way to make new friends, learn new skills, and have a blast!
