Bring Your Child to Work Day 2024
Staff members children truly enjoyed their day!
National Assistant Principal Week
A big thank you to Mrs. Rosen for all that she does for our school community. We recognize the significant role that she plays in the overall academic achievement of our Barkalow students. She is always available to lend a helping hand or a listening ear to all our students, parents and staff.
We are lucky to have you!
Administrative Professionals Day
We are always grateful to our incredible office staff at Barkalow School! Thank you to our phenomenal administrative professionals in our main office. To help you put faces with the voices you hear when calling Barkalow, we say an extra special thank you to Mrs. Perry, Mrs. Schiazza, Mrs. Ginn, and Mrs. Hanson.
NJSLA ~ Please read the letter below
May 6th - May 14th
We ask that you please attempt to have your children arrive on time. Once testing begins, students that are late will not be allowed to enter their testing classrooms. They will be relocated to another room until testing is over.
End of Year Schedule
Due to all our snow dates being used, this school year, the last day of school is
Friday, June 21st. As a reminder, the last three days of school are early dismissal:
Tuesday, June 18, Thursday, June 20, and Friday, June 21.
Reminder that Wednesday, June 19th schools are closed.
Parking in the Lot at Dismissal
In an effort to provide a safe environment, please adhere to the following procedures for student pick up.
If your child is a walker getting picked up and does not need to be signed out:
- Parents should not park in the lot at dismissal time.
- You will enter the parking lot and proceed to the horseshoe driveway between Barkalow and the ECLC.
- Please pull up all the way in the driveway so as to keep traffic moving.
- Students will exit the building and report to that horseshoe area to be picked up. Students should not be walking in between or behind buses or cars parked to be picked up.
- You may exit the same way you entered or proceed to the exit between ECLC and Barkalow. If your child is being signed out.
- Cars will still not be allowed to enter the main parking lot in front of the Barkalow main entrance between 1:45 pm - 2:25 pm due to bus parking.
- If you need to sign out your child during that time period, please enter the lot at the center entrance and park in the center parking lot in front of the horseshoe and proceed to the main office.
- After 2:25 pm, please enter the front lot once the buses have left. Please use caution while on school property as many students are leaving the building.
- Park in the front of the building in the bus spaces and proceed to the office to sign out your child.
- Please do not park along the sidewalk at the front entrance of the school. Cones and yellow curbs signify parking is not permitted.
We have noticed that there has been some deviation to these rules which have caused an unsafe situation in the lot. We request your continued cooperation as we work to ensure the students' safety and make the process efficient.
Dress Code
As warmer weather approaches, please take a moment to review our dress code with your child. Please reinforce the dress code policy 5511 as stated in the handbook.
- Appropriate shorts are permitted during the school hours. Dresses, skirts and shorts shall be a length of at least finger-tip length.
- Shirts should cover the torso at all times.
- Tank, tube and halter-tops, including "spaghetti" or “bikini” straps and low cut shirts are not permitted. Sleeveless shirts are permitted as long as they extend to the shoulder and the straps are thick enough so that undergarments are not visible.
- Cut-off t-shirts or tank tops that expose parts of the armpit or chest area are not permitted.
- Pants should not be worn low enough so that undergarments are exposed.
Please note that building administrators reserve the right to request a change of clothing when such interferes with the welfare and safety of all. If a change of clothes is not available, the student will not go back to class until one can be provided. If a child’s dress is deemed inappropriate while attending the school day or other school related events, parents or guardians will be contacted to bring their child a change of clothes. Should this become a continuous offense, it will be observed as being insubordinate and the discipline policy will be enforced.
As we enter the fourth quarter of the school year, please take a moment to "shout out" a Barkalow staff member. Please use this link to recognize our amazing staff . We will be sure to celebrate this with our faculty and staff. Thank you!
