Yancey County Schools Families,
As our community continues to recover from the aftermath of Hurricane Helene, we want to thank everyone for coming together to assist our families and neighbors in their time of greatest need.
The YCS Leadership Team has consulted with state officials concerning the school calendar and the reopening plan for our students. On Monday, November 18, YCS will return to school on a two hour delay through Wednesday, November 20, 2024. On November 21, 22, 25, 26 and December 2 and 3, we will operate on a one hour delay.
Our transportation team and bus drivers have been working on the bus routes and community bus stops. The delay schedules will allow our bus drivers time to adjust to the routes and road construction in our communities.
We invite our students and families to Open House events to talk with teachers and principals about bus routes and share any of your family's needs as we transition back to school. On Tuesday, November 12, Open House will be held at South Toe Elementary School from 3:30-5:30 pm. On Thursday, November 14, Open Houses will be held at all other schools from 2:30-5:30 pm.
Thank you again for your strength and resilience as we all remain Yancey Strong!
YCS has been overwhelmingly blessed with offers of help from all over the country! Over the next few weeks, we will share stories and photos of the wonderful people and organizations who have donated items, but more importantly, shown amazing love to our county.
Today, an incredible group of moms from South Carolina delivered over 2,100 backpacks filled with school supplies for every single one of our students. Thank you Mom to Mom: Helping Western NC Families! Your generosity and kindness mean so much to us!
2025 Aviation Art Contest
The N.C. Department of Transportation's Division of Aviation hosts the North Carolina Aviation Art Contest each year to inspire and engage young people in aviation.
Entries for the 2025 North Carolina Aviation Art Contest must be received by Jan. 17, 2025.
The contest offers children ages 6-17 who live or attend school in North Carolina the chance to explore different aspects of aviation. Winners from the North Carolina competition progress to the national competition, hosted by the National Association of State Aviation Officials. Winners of the national competition are submitted to the international competition.
The North Carolina Airports Association sponsors the art contest each year.
The contest theme for 2025 Aviation Art Contest is “Women with Wings”.
Read more about the theme at the NCDOT Division of Aviation’s art contest website.
