The Principal's Corner with Dr. Barlow
Greetings Cougars!
I hope you are all doing well as Daylight Savings, St. Patrick's Day and Spring Break are quickly approaching!
Enrollment and Growth
It has been busy around here between curriculum fair and planning for next school year. We continue to have a lot of interest in enrollment at HRCS, many prospective families have talked to our current families and are hearing about your positive experiences. It is so great to learn how you and your children are doing with school and building important bonds as a family. As I have said before, I have a tremendous respect for you as home educators, as I know home education is a notable investment as well as a great experience.
Hiring New Teachers for Fall
We plan to hire two new TK-8 Advisory Teachers, and a High School teacher, based on our overall enrollment needs. While we have a lot of strong demand, we are mindful in both our TK-8 and High School programs, the amount of growth we can take on in a given year while maintaining high quality and effectiveness in the many facets of our unique school.
iReady: A Great New Resource
One great new resource that we have started piloting on a small scale this spring is iReady. This platform provides detailed information on how students are doing with various skill sets in math and language arts. This assessment is linked to some powerful and targeted (and gamified) practice, called MyPath. MyPath is recommended for 45 minutes weekly and has a lot of promise to help our students be prepared for life during and after their schooling through a solid skill set.
We will be making a shift in the fall, so all students in grades 2-8 will have access to iReady to get a good sense of their strengths and opportunities for growth and related customized learning on MyPath. ATs are currently training on this program in April and will be following up with families in the new school year as this program gets launched with all families in the new school year.

From Princess to Pirate
Modesto Junior College’s Theatre Department invite you and your students to our spring production of From Princess to Pirate written and directed by Lindsay Bryan. We will be hosting a special performance on Wednesday, April 2 at 10:00am in our main auditorium on the east campus for area junior high and high school students!
‘Adventure with us on the high seas as we take a look at real women throughout history who traded tiaras for tricorn hats and scepters for swords. This swashbuckling play encompasses over 1,000 years of history, which is brought to life when a student happens upon a book about pirates and brings it to life as she reads the stories. This play is a love letter to all the librarians and teachers who opened new worlds to students by sharing their love for books, and proves that stereotypes are meant to be broken.’
The show will run roughly 1 hour long with no intermission and there will be a meet and greet with cast members immediately following the performance. Cost for tickets is $5.00 per student and all teachers and assistants are admitted free of charge. This is a family show ages 6 and up.
A more detailed email will be sent out two weeks prior to the performance regarding busses, show run time and other fun tidbits.
To reserve a space for you and your students please RSVP HERE. If you require more information, please feel free to contact me. I would be happy to answer any questions. Thank you for your time and attention and we look forward to seeing you at the performance this fall.
