Principal News & Notes: March 2025
Dear Cold Spring Families,
Spring is right around the corner, and we have so much to celebrate as we step into March! Our students continue to grow academically and socially, and we are so proud of their hard work and perseverance. Thank you for your ongoing partnership in their success!
Celebrations
- A big shout-out to our students for their dedication to learning each day. Whether it's mastering new math skills, exploring literature, or engaging in hands-on science activities, they are showing great determination!
- We also want to recognize the incredible creativity and teamwork of our students who participated in our PTA Reflections Program, International Fair, and our STEM Fair. Their hard work and enthusiasm made these wonderful events for all!
- A special thank you to our families for the generous demonstration of appreciation by stocking the staff lounge!
Looking Ahead
- March brings exciting opportunities, including a number of grade level field trips and assemblies and assessments for our students to show what they know. Be sure to check our school calendar for details!
As we approach the final stretch of the school year, let’s continue to encourage our students to set goals, work hard, and celebrate their progress. Their growth is truly inspiring! Thank you for being an essential part of our school community. Your involvement, support, and encouragement make all the difference!
With gratitude,
Principal Hambrecht

Important Information
Grade 5 Maryland Integrated Science Assessment (MISA):
Our 5th grade students will all participated in MISA testing on March 5th and March 6th. The test will be administered from 1:30-3:15pm on both days. The Maryland Comprehensive Assessment Program (MCAP) includes the Maryland Integrated Science Assessment (MISA), which is administered to all students in fifth grade, eighth grade, and high school. The purpose of the assessment is to provide educators, parents, and the public with information on student progress toward scientific literacy.
The MISA aligns with the Maryland Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS). The NGSS integrates three dimensions necessary to understand science: Science and Engineering Practices, Crosscutting Concepts, and Disciplinary Core Ideas.
Any questions can be directed to our School Testing Coordinator, Ms. Clark. Thank you!
Relational Aggression Follow Up:
Our students did a wonderful job hearing important school messages in our most recent Town Hall assemblies. Our theme all year has been, "Doing Our Best Every Day!" In our Town Hall assemblies, we spoke about how one person can make a difference and an impact for the better. We connected that back to our theme and gave examples of what students do every day to make a difference at Cold Spring. We have so much of this and always want to celebrate it. We also shared explicit examples of relational aggression and the impact on our school. We gave students clear guidance on what we would like to see all centered around being an upstander.
In an effort to decrease relational aggression and celebrate those who are continuing to show kindness, care, empathy, and inclusion in our building, we are launching the "Caught Being Kind" campaign. This will begin Monday and our staff will be on the lookout for acts of kindness. Students who are recognized will get their name on a heart that will be put up around the school.
Click HERE to see the Town Hall slides we used with students and please continue to share messages of kindness and inclusion when talking at home.
