Thursday 11th July 2024
Your Lister News from the Lister News Team
Sports' Day!
The Lister Community School Sports Day was a vibrant explosion of energy, school spirit, and pure fun! The atmosphere crackled with excitement as students of all year groups cheered each other on in a dazzling display of athleticism and teamwork. From the nail-biting relay races to the fiercely boccia, every event showcased the amazing talent and dedication of our Lister students. Whether sprinting down the track or leaping for a long jump, the students poured their hearts into every challenge, demonstrating an unwavering commitment to giving their all for their house colours. There's nothing we love more at the Lister News' desk than seeing Lister students having a whale of a time! It was a day that truly celebrated the power of sportsmanship, camaraderie, and the joy of aiming for excellence.

The Lister Oscars! Keep an eye out for your invitation...
There's nothing we love at the Lister News desk more than an awards' evening. This year we have a wonderful event taking place on Wednesday the 17th of July at 4pm. Lister will be hosting its first 'Lister Oscars' award evening. Over 200 students have been selected for awards by staff across the school and they will be presented with certificates and prizes in front of their families and friends. For the moment, the awards have been anonymised. Students will be invited to the evening if they have received an award and they will discover which subject they have won the award in during the evening. We will share further news in the build up to the event! For now, the evening will also include performances from current and ex students as well as an Art exhibition.
Staying Safe Online - Algorithms
Childnet have created a useful page for parents/carers and children that explores what algorithms are. This is hugely important for anyone who is engaging in content on the internet. There are tips for how you might have a conversation with your child, as well as clear information about how algorithms work. You can find the website here.
Culture Day!
All the way through the year at Lister, we like to celebrate the range of cultures and beliefs of our students, but today is a day where this celebration is foregrounded. On Culture Day is:
- A non-uniform day where students are encouraged to wear cultural dress and/or colours that represent their culture - students and staff are encouraged to pay £1 which we will donate to our food bank.
- There is food from cultures around the world in the canteen all week
- We have music from different cultures being played in the Agora during break time, and other cultural songs being played during some transition points during the day
- There will be a fashion show/runway at lunch time. Please come down to see and support if you can - students are paying 50p for a ticket to enter
- Lessons could also have a cultural theme for the day.
We love the range of cultures at Lister and would to thank all parents who have helped with costumes and donations.
