LIVONIA CAREER TECHNICAL CENTER
OCTOBER 4, 2024
LCTC Community,
With our school year well underway, I wanted to take a moment to emphasize the critical role that attendance plays in the success of our students. CTE classes often involve hands-on training and practical skills development. Regular attendance ensures students can actively participate in these activities and gain practical experience. Let us continue to work together to make attendance a priority.
This month we introduced Community with Character Students of the Month. Each month we choose a different community with character trait to focus on. Each teacher will choose a student who exemplifies that trait. The students will get their pictures displayed in our showcase for the month. This month the trait is RESPECT. We are excited to celebrate the successes of our students beyond academics.
The end of marking period one is Friday, October 25th. This is a good time for parents and students to check Student Connect to make sure they have a clear understanding of where they stand academically in their classes.
I hope everyone has a wonderful and relaxing weekend.
With LCTC Pride,
Mrs. Gray

CRIMINAL JUSTICE STUDENTS
Criminal Justice students practice their driving skills using a Virtual Reality simulator. Mr. Mann recommends all residents stay off the sidewalk.
Criminal Justice students completed their firearms safety and instructional course recently and were introduced to our MILO simulation training system to begin developing basic firearms skills and demonstrate safe weapons handling (of course, only approved simulation training weapons are used). The MILO (Multiple Interactive Learning Objectives) system will be utilized for a variety of types of law enforcement training during the year.
Criminal Justice students work in teams to solve a "cold case" investigation.
PRE-MEDICINE CLASSES
Students in Pre-Medicine are learning about directional terms, body planes, and cavities. Here they were taking time to mark with different colored tape where each cavity, plane, and directional term were located on their "model". During our 1/2 block, the students got to continue their learning while experiencing a fire drill. Learning doesn't just have to be inside of the classroom.
CAREER INTERN PROGRAM
Career Intern students working hard at their job sites.
ANIMATION & WEB DESIGN CLASS
Second Year Animation/Web Students are applying Principles of Animation by practicing Animation Exercises such as making a flour sack appear to be a real live creature with emotions and applying principles of animation such as slow in slow out and squash and stretch. They have also created a portfolio to showcase their work.
Students in Animation/Web Design are hard at work learning HTML/CSS. Hypertext Markup Language and Cascading Style Sheets. HTML is used to create web pages.
ADVANCED SPORTS MEDICINE CLASS
The Advanced Sports Medicine class has been learning about the medical kits that athletic trainers use and the specific supplies within them. They went on a scavenger hunt with their teams throughout the building and with their own competitiveness running wild, they followed the clues and collected the supplies that matched those clues so that in the end each team had assembled their own medical kit! The winning team reaped the candy rewards!!
The class has also been learning about the different types of splints that sports medicine professionals use to stabilize acute injuries on the field. They completed a lab where they each had to act as the "Head Athletic Trainer" for each type of splint. As the Head AT they randomly selected an injury and then had to choose the correct size splint and instruct their "Assistant Athletic Trainers" on how to properly stabilize the injury and apply the splint!
CONSTRUCTION TRADE CLASSES
Construction Trades 1 students working on concrete forms and slump come testing concrete.
Construction Trades 2 students working on finishing floors and preparing the bathroom for tile.
Supporting Youth Going Back to School
Dear Parents and Guardians of the Livonia Public Schools School Community,
As the new school year begins, supporting our youth's mental health is more important than ever. The new school year can bring feelings of both anxiety and excitement as students transition into a new grade, perhaps a new school, and are all in turn learning and growing into who they are.
We have provided a Back to School resource packet for parents and teachers who are navigating through this time. Click here to access to the flyer.
By working together, we can create an environment where our children thrive. Remember, Care Solace offers valuable mental health care coordination services to connect you with community-based providers for counseling, therapy, and more.
To access Care Solace:
- Call 888-515-0595: Their multilingual helpline is staffed 24/7/365.
- Visit www.caresolace.com/livonia: Explore mental health providers independently or click "Book Appointment" for personalized assistance.
By joining hands as a community, we can provide a nurturing environment that supports the mental health and well-being of our youth. Let's prioritize their emotional growth and create a brighter future together.
Thank you for being dedicated parents in the Livonia Public Schools community. Your commitment to our youth is truly commendable.
