7B Spent the Day Before Break Playing Games!!
The students of 7B learned how to unplug and foster their creativity by creating game boards of their own to access the curriculum of South America in their Ancient Civilizations class with Ms. O'Donoghue. Students partnered up with classmates to research existing game boards and modeled their own South America-themed game board with repurposed and recycled materials. This project required researching, writing for a purpose, art skills, cooperative learning, problem solving, multimedia editing, and knowledge of South America. Students were required to create 50 questions related to: politics, geography, climate, capitals, and culture. They had to write for a purpose in creating questions, directions, rules, and even a script for their commercials. Multimedia was rolled in when they enjoyed themselves making commercials, where they practiced their sales techniques and acting. On the last day before April vacation, students were able to go to the cafeteria and share their games with staff members and each other, making it a fun, interactive, and educational game for all.
Medford Public Schools' vision of learning is that students receive inclusive and culturally affirming instruction and a curriculum that acknowledges students' backgrounds and identities and establishes high expectations for all students that promote critical thinking and problem solving. We are committed to providing educational equity for every child by offering learning experiences through projects like these that allow for student engagement in a meaningful way.
PTO Gifts Andrews
Since June 2024, the school has had a vision to have a personalized tablecloth for events that promote Andrews Middle School. Our PTO secretary, Jacque Aureli, took on the vision and, using her talents, created a beautiful personalized presentation tablecloth that will make our events, such as Moving On ceremonies, Open House events, and Orientations, show the community what Andrews Middle School is. Thank you, Jacque and the PTO, for such an amazing and generous gift that will be a part of our community for many years to come.
Walk/Ride to School Day May 7th
As we enjoy the warming weather, it is time to think about spending more time outdoors! The Safe Routes to School program will be hosting its annual spring event, where students can ride to school as part of a community. To find out where your school communities will join, please contact safewalkmedford@gmail.com.
While we think of the increased opportunities for the outdoors, I want to highlight our generous donation last year of new bike racks and locks. Students may borrow a lock at the office any time they ride to school and may need to secure their bike for the day.
Athletes of the Week
Congratulations the the Middle School Athletes of the Week. Andrews Middle School is home for three of these amazing students and athletes.
