Family Newsletter — Sunday, April 7th, 2024
Hello Spartan Families,
I hope you all had an opportunity to do something you enjoyed during Spring Break. We are excited to see the students return tomorrow! It's hard to believe that we only have approximately two and a half months left of school.
Now is a perfect time to start checking with teachers for extra support. Teachers are available by appointment from 7:10 a.m. to 7:40 a.m. and from 2:10 p.m. to 2:40 p.m. daily for students who need additional support. Math Night will also be held on Tuesday, April 9th, from 2:30 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. in the Commons. The Spartan Staff is ready to assist!
I would also like to thank Mrs. Corie Gudgeon, Mr. Tom Wilfong, and Mr. Ross Short! Last week was Assistant Principals Week. Thank you for all you do supporting Staff, Students, and Families!
Friday, April 12th, will be our second week of implementing Spartan Time during Advisory. During Spartan Time, students can visit teachers for additional support. I've included a Spartan Time section with further information below.
We look forward to getting back to school and reconnecting with students. Have a great week!
Sincerely,
Mike Washington
Principal
District Promise
Every student in the Stanwood-Camano School District is empowered to learn in an inclusive setting and is prepared for the future of their choice.
Stanwood High School Vision Statement
Stanwood Spartans are united in cultivating character, modeling respect, teaching leadership and connecting to community.
Spartan Time
Spartan Time will be used during Advisory, where students can visit teachers for additional support. Below is the process used:
The teacher or student can initiate it.
If the student initiates it, the teacher will call the receiving teacher to okay it and send the student a signed Spartan Pass.
Student scans QR code before leaving their 2nd period with a pass and scans QR code upon arriving at the receiving classroom.
The receiving teacher does a courtesy call to the sending teacher if initiated by the student.
The student remains in the receiving classroom for the remainder of the Spartan Time period.
A HUGE thank you to Mrs. Corie Gudgeon, Mr. Tom Wilfong and Mr. Ross Short for
all they do to support our students and staff!

WESCO Spectator Guidelines & Sportsmanship Code
The essential elements of character-building and ethics in interscholastic athletics are embodied in the concept of seven core principles: sportsmanship, discipline, leadership, teamwork, responsibility, dedication, and respect. To demonstrate sportsmanship in the stands, we ask all spectators to adhere to these 5 basic guidelines:
- I will appreciate all good plays and players, whether they compete for my team or my opponent.
- I will remember that school athletics are an extension of the classroom and that learning is taking place.
- I will be positive and use respectful language towards players, coaches, officials, and other spectators.
- I will respect the abilities and sensitivities of our opponents and officials, regardless of the outcome of the contest.
- I will remember that my actions reflect on others, including students, school, and the community.
