Principal Message
Good Afternoon, OMS Families,
Have you joined ABC 25 yet? ABC 25 is a non-for-profit foundation that provides funds, raised via membership dues and fundraising activities, for educational enhancement in District 25. We are excited to share that 3 of our grants submitted for the 24-25 school year received funding. Additionally, if 25% of our parent community becomes a member, our school is awarded $2500 to be used at the school's discretion. Please consider becoming a member today by CLICKING HERE!
We also encourage you to join the PTA! Our PTA provides invaluable support to our students and staff throughout the year, we want everyone to be a part of it. Additionally, there are several vacancies on the PTA exec board, committee chairs, and club sponsors. Please consider getting involved! PTA Website
Have a wonderful Thanksgiving!
Enjoy the weekend,
Erin, Julia, and the OMS Staff
Winter Clothing
Now that we have had our first snowfall, it is time to review recess and clothing. In D25, we go outside if the temperature (including windchill) is zero degrees or above. We ask that students be dressed appropriately to stay warm during their 30 minute recess. We encourage boots, snowpants, coats, hats, mittens/gloves, and scarves.
In order to play in the snow at school, students must have boots, snowpants, coat, and mittens/gloves. Students that do not have all of these items remain on the blacktop or redtop (if it is clear of snow).
**If you need assistance in outfitting your child with winter gear, please contact Ms. Davis at edavis@sd25.org. We want to ensure that "Olive" our students are warm.
Science Club - Winter Sessions
Science Club is back with three sessions, meeting on Tuesdays or Wednesdays, January 14 through February 26. We’re offering hands-on science adventures for students in grades two through five; first grade students may participate if an older sibling is enrolled in Science Club AND an adult can volunteer to help every day that the first grade student attends.
We meet from 3:35 until 4:45 PM in the LMC.
Session 1: Analog Adventures (three weeks)
Experiment with classical methods of communication, learn how to calculate with a slide rule, use a simple lever to accurately weigh objects and more.
Session 2: Material Detectives (two weeks)
Identify metals and polymers with physical and chemical tests.
Session 3: Molecular Models (two weeks)
Build models of familiar molecules using Happy Atoms, Molymod, framework, and antique space-filling systems.
Want to join in the fun? Then complete and return the registration form as soon as possible. Sessions can fill up very quickly. The number of students per session is dependent on the number of adult volunteers.
To ensure that we’re able to provide a safe and enjoyable activity at least two adults will be present each day. Any days that do not have at least one adult volunteer will be cancelled. Please consider signing up to help on one or more days as your schedule allows.
Questions? Please contact Cynthia House at chouse@sd25.org.

Help for the Holidays
The holidays are quickly approaching, and we have families in our OMS community that can use a little extra help during the holiday season. Please contact us if your family is one that would benefit from this assistance. Gifts or gift cards will be collected to distribute to families who respond by November 22.
