5/13/24
May 13, 2024
Good afternoon,
Every week of the year we talk about Saber Pride. Every month we talk about kindness at FHS. The reality is, we still have work to do in order to make FHS a better community and one where everyone belongs. This message today is a reminder that we can all take actions every day to help everyone, regardless of gender, race, religion, national origin, ethnicity, ancestry, color, creed, ability, orientation, or any aspect of identity, know they belong at FHS. Knowing and feeling you belong also relates to May and Mental Health Awareness month. It is up to each of us to choose to be kind and to say something if anyone we know appears to need help.
With Saber Pride,
Mr. Vuolo
FHS RANKED AS “DISTINGUISHED” FOR PLTW
We are very proud to share that FHS was recognized as DISTINGUISHED by the “Project Lead the Way” (PLTW) program for the 2023-24 school year. In addition, Franklin Public Schools was recognized as a DISTINGUISHED DISTRICT.
PLTW empowers millions of students across the U.S. to unlock their potential by developing the in-demand, real-world knowledge and skills necessary to thrive in life beyond the classroom. PLTW Distinguished Program Recognition celebrates districts and schools committed to helping students own their education by increasing student access, engagement, and achievement in their PLTW programs. We are excited to celebrate and recognize your incredible achievements.
This recognition reflects our commitment to students having access to PLTW Launch science learning at the elementary level, PLTW Gateway science learning at the middle school level, and PLTW Distinguished School courses in Biomedical Science and Engineering at the high school level. Congratulations to all of our schools for receiving this distinction! You can read more about these recognitions on this webpage here.

FHS GRAD TICKET INFORMATION
Dear Graduating Senior Families,
We are looking forward to our graduation ceremony at American Family Field on Saturday, June 8th at 4pm with our students, staff, family, and friends. We have more information to share with you about how the ticket process will work for students and families.
Every graduate will receive (4) complimentary tickets. Graduates with more than one household or households with more than one graduating student will only receive (4) tickets. Please note the graduate does not need a ticket and does not count as part of the (4) tickets a family receives. Graduates will be seated alphabetically with their peers.
In addition, we are excited to share that we will be selling additional graduation tickets beginning Thursday, May 16th. Each ticket beyond the (4) complimentary tickets costs $8 each. Tickets will be sold in the high school main office to students for cash, cashier’s checks, or credit card. When students purchase tickets with cash, please have them bring exact change. Tickets will be sold during a student’s lunch and after school.
Additional paid tickets will be given to students at the time of purchase. When students are given the tickets, the students will verify the number of tickets received. The four complimentary tickets will be given to students during the Senior Meeting on 5/15 during Advisory.
All seating at the event for families and attendees will be general admission. In other words, all accessible seats not allocated for our graduates and staff will be available on the date of the ceremony.
Ticket purchases are not refundable.
Please encourage your Senior to finish strong. Participation in this ceremony is contingent upon completion of all graduation requirements, as well as meeting all obligations. These obligations include fees, detentions, disciplinary consequences, and fully completing the checkout process.
We are so excited to host our graduates at American Family Field and to celebrate our seniors as they end their final few weeks at Franklin High School.
Sincerely,
Michael Vuolo
AP EXAMS 5/6-5/13
This year's Advanced Placement (AP) Exams take place the weeks of May 6 and May 13. All AP test-takers will take paper-and-pencil exams at FHS, given at standardized times designated by the College Board. Many specific details about this year's AP exam administration were emailed on this handout to AP students and families and shared on the FHS AP Google Classroom, but it is important to note that most afternoon AP exams will likely run past the regular end of the school day, sometimes by up to an hour or more. Students will need to make arrangements for transportation home and keep this in mind regarding work schedules, activities or sports practices/games, etc. The full list of all AP exam dates and times can be found here and students should note the time(s) of their exam to ensure their attendance and timely arrival, as they will likely be called down up to 30 minutes prior to the 8 a.m. or noon start time. Examinees will need to bring regular non-mechanical number 2 pencils, pens with dark blue or black ink, and an approved calculator (if applicable for that exam) with them to their AP exams. Cell phones, smart watches, and other electronic devices are not permitted in the AP test room. Please contact Mrs. Oost with any AP questions. We wish all of our AP test-takers the best on their exams!

LIBRARY BOOKS ARE DUE BACK BEFORE SUMMER
High school books are due back May 29th. Please look for any missing books in cars, under furniture, in your child’s bedroom and return them to school. Families will receive a bill for any library materials that are not returned. If items are found over the summer, they can be returned to the ECC District Office and student accounts will be adjusted. If families would like to provide a replacement copy instead of paying for the item, the replacement copy may be sent to school in the fall. Thank you!
