BEH Spring Break Updates

There were a lot of emotions this week, students were clearly feeling the excitement and anxiety as we got closer to the start of Spring Break. We also completed our monthly fire drill, our lockdown drill and had an early release this week which likely added to the emotions for some of our students. It was great to see our students engaged in their "Buddy Times" during the early release, with many classes having our older students support their buddies with various projects. It is definitely a highlight of the monthly early release days.

There is no school this coming week, but we wanted to remind everyone of a few things as we are away from BEH for the week. So please check out the reminders and updates below.

SUN school starts back up on Tuesday, April 8th. It runs after school Monday-Thursday through Thursday, May 29th. If you are interested in registering your child or learning more here is the flyer for next term. Additionally, if you just want to get straight to the registration form here is the link.

SUN school typically fills up every term, so if you are interested I suggest completing the forms and the SEI registration ASAP so that you can be considered for spring term.

Portland Public Schools (PPS) sent out invitations for Summer Acceleration Academy (SAA) to families of K-2nd grade students who qualified last week. Students are qualified for this based on if they had a score on an assessment that shows they could use additional growth. If your student was invited and you are wondering whether it is a good fit don't hesitate to reach out to their teacher and ask for their thoughts.

If you did not see an invite and you think that your child should have qualified please check your junk/spam folders in the email that you typically get communication from PPS. If you would like your child to attend, please fill out the registration form that was sent to you ASAP, as this program will fill.

Don't forget to continue to support student literacy over the break. Please encourage your students to complete their spring break reading logs this week. Our hope is that every student reads for at least 20 minutes everyday. When they do, make sure that they log it on the forms that have come home with them, get your signatures, and return it when we come back from spring break.

We will have our March Madness Reading Celebration when we return and students will only be able to join the party if they have completed reading logs that are signed and turned back in to their teachers. Last year, we had about 40 students who had to spend the party time in the library reading. We would love to see every student join the party this year.

Our first day back from spring break is Monday, March 31st. We look forward to seeing all of our students back on that day.

Our first week back is also the final week of the 3rd quarter this year. That means that we actually return to a four day week, as Friday, April 4th is Grading Day for teachers.

Please make sure that students are back and ready for school for that week, as teachers will be wrapping up the work and assessments for the 3rd quarter to help inform their grades for the third quarter.

Welcome back! This will be the Hopscotch Foundation's second season of Baseball/Softball, and you are invited to register your kid/kids for the 2025 season.

Last year was successful, and we are looking forward to an even greater year this summer to help encourage kids to play a game we all love. This year, kids will also be pitching rather than coach pitching like we did last year. As you know, this developmental league is after the Little League season. This is to get more reps to play Baseball and Softball when the weather is at its best. Last year, we had one or two cancelations due to the heat, but other than that, it was smooth sailing.

Please encourage your son or daughter's friends to join us as well.
