P-TECH PRIDE Day
P-TECH PRIDE represents the program's core principles of Partnership, Respect, Innovation, Diversity and Excellence. For one day each month, the program steps away from regularly scheduled classes to provide programming focused on these core principles.
January's P-TECH PRIDE Day centered around partnership by inviting P-TECH business partners to conduct mock interviews with students. The students participated in several rounds of interviews and received feedback from each business partner. The mock interview process helped the students to simultaneously hone their job interview skills and network for future career opportunities. Thank you to all of the guest interviewers for their time and feedback!
P-TECH alumni Sabah Haji and T Dell'Anno (both members of the program's second cohort) also visited BOCES to speak to current students. Sabah earned an associate degree in human services and is currently working at Wolfspeed while also pursuing a bachelor's degree at SUNY Polytechnic. T earned an associate degree in business management and is currently employed at Indium Corporation. Students asked questions, and alumni spoke about the resilience needed to achieve at the college level and the importance of taking advantage of opportunities throughout their P-TECH journeys.
January's PRIDE Day also focused on diversity. In small groups, the Elevating Student Voices team led important discussions with students regarding their experiences with diversity. Students talked about their communities, creating friendships and enhancing the welcoming environment at P-TECH. The Elevating Student Voices team led their groups with poise and dignity, and the students are looking forward to having more conversations around important topics in the future!
