Instructional Day - Attendance
It is very important to remember that attendance is directly tied to student achievement and we want to ensure that each and every student at Roncalli performs to their maximum potential or beyond. It is important that students are on time for classes each and every day, and that they are present for the duration of the school day. Consistent attendance is crucial for academic and social success, as it ensures that students are actively engaged and able to fully benefit from the educational opportunities we provide. When students attend school consistently, they not only keep up with their lessons, assignments and academics, but they also develop important life skills such as responsibility, time management, and perseverance. Being present and engaged in the classroom and school allows students to participate in discussions, collaborate with peers, and build strong relationships.
In the morning, classes start promptly at 8:40 am and at 12:45 pm in the afternoon for all students; Our instructional day does not end until 2:45 pm. Attendance matters!
Students who miss time in school, even for legitimate reasons,
may experience gaps in their learning
may have increased anxiety levels regarding school
may be less confident to participate in class
may struggle to complete assigned work
may not be well connected to a peer group
may not develop important skills necessary for later in life
Here is our daily time table.
Unexpected School Closures
In the event of an unexpected school closure (inclement weather, power failure, water problems, etc), we will use School Messenger to contact you via email. For this reason, it is important that families inform us of any changes in your contact numbers or email addresses. When inclement weather is expected, please listen to our local radio stations for school information, check the School Information Status Report on the NLSchools website at https://www.nlschools.ca/schools/statusreport.jsp/ or check Twitter @RoncalliSchool for the latest school updates. Decisions about school closures or delays due to weather are usually made by NLSchools by 6:30 AM.
On days when school may close unexpectedly early during the school day due to weather or unforeseen circumstances, it is very important that we know how each child will dismissed. Please read and complete the attached memo, and return to the school as soon as possible. For your convenience, a paper copy of this memo will be send home with all the children as well on Friday, January 17th.
Indoor Shoes
A reminder that all students need a pair of indoor shoes to wear at school, especially this time of the year with snow, salt and heavy boots. As well, please note that NO outdoor shoes are permitted to be worn in the gym at anytime. These need to be removed in the lobby before entering the gym.
Breakfast Club
Our Kids Eat Smart Breakfast Club has been back up and running since Thursday, January 23, 2025. A BIG Thank You to all of our parent/guardian and community volunteers who show up each and every day to ensure that all of our students have access to breakfast items if they wish. We are very appreciative of all that you do for our children!

School Information - Communication
The first point of contact for students and families should be the classroom teacher. We encourage you to keep an open communication with your child’s teachers throughout the school year. This can be done via google classroom, telephone, email, their website, monthly class memos, twitter, etc. Developing and maintaining that positive school/family relationship is essential for success!
