A Message from the Principal
Dear Sheridan families,
Today, we wrapped up the APT Food Drive, and all we can say is… WOW! Our Sheridan families were incredibly generous, bringing in almost 2,400 food items to be donated to local food pantries and organizations. The energy in the building was electric as we saw the daily contributions (see photo) and watched the tally grow posted in the hallway. Congratulations to 3rd Grade who won the indoor snowball fight for donating the most food. But the real winners are the hungry people who will benefit from this effort, and for that we sincerely say THANK YOU, SHERIDAN!
Yesterday, APT and the Spirit of 67 brought author Barb Rosenstock to Sheridan for the Visiting Author program. She shared how observing the world around you can turn into a great story. We learned about the Great Lakes and how water is a part of us all. We are so grateful for this rich experience! Special thanks to all who ordered the books and to the APT parents in charge of the event. It was great!
Today, we also celebrated the end of Trimester 1 with an all-school celebration. As you may know, students and their homerooms can earn “purple shark bites” when they exceed expectations in a variety of settings. We set the goal to earn 50 purple shark bites for each homeroom and we did it! Mrs. Dunn’s class chose a game day for everyone. This is also the end of our first grading period. Report cards will go home on Tuesday, November 19 - grades 1-4 will be delivered via email and Kindergarten will bring home narratives in paper form via backpacks. Please reach out to your child’s teacher if you have any questions.
Finally, if you are looking for weekend plans, we suggest you cheer on the Lake Forest Scouts varsity football team who will be playing in the Quarterfinals this Saturday, November 16 at 1:00 pm. This is a home game for the Scouts, so we’d love to pack the stands. You can also view the game on “the U”. Our very own Ryan Carney is one of the proud coaches. Go Scouts!
From the Office: A few weeks ago, we surveyed the school families to gauge interest in ordering replacement Shark House shirts. Unfortunately, we do not have enough interest to meet the minimum order requirements. If your child requested a new shirt, we suggest wearing their house’s color to show their spirit on Family Event dates.
From your Librarian: Reminder that Family Reading Night is next Thursday, November 21st! Family Reading Night is a special event where families come together to enjoy the simple pleasure of reading a book. Whether you choose a book from the school or classroom library, or a favorite from home, the goal is to spend quality time together immersed in a good book.
To support this event, Lake Forest Book Store is offering a 10% discount to all District 67 families. Simply visit the store, mention your school’s name, and you’ll receive the discount on your purchase. It’s a wonderful opportunity to pick up a new book and make lasting memories with your family!
I would love everyone to remember to read, and, as a bit of a competitive person myself, would really like to win the crosstown competition for the highest percentage of families who participate. Please be sure to fill out this form on the 21st.
Sincerely,
Susan

Winter MAP Testing
District 67 students in grades 2-8 will take the NWEA Measures of Academic Progress (MAP) from December 3-5.Makeup tests will take place through December 13.
Please make sure your student brings a fully charged iPad to school every day while testing.
MAP is a Common Core-aligned, adaptive, computer-based assessment. This nationally normed assessment is designed to measure growth over time in the areas of reading and math and is an indicator for how a student may perform on the Spring Illinois Assessment of Readiness (IAR) state assessment. The District utilizes the achievement and growth data from MAP to inform instructional planning for individuals and groups of students; and measure growth from year-to-year.
Grateful for Your Support in the District 67 APT Thanksgiving Food Drive!
